The fifth game of the USPL will be played between Atalanta Black Caps and California Golden Eagles at Broward County Stadium in Florida on 25th November from 3:30 am onwards. CGE has won their first game while Black Caps have started the season with a loss.

Atalanta Black Caps faced the Maryland Mavericks on 22nd Nov at the same venue. Batting first, the Black Caps set a target of 129 runs after Saad Ali scored 34 runs off 26 balls. After 33 runs getting hammered in the first three overs during the chase, Atlanta made a comeback picking three wickets in thirteen runs. But bowlers couldn’t keep the pressure alive. Atlanta Blackcaps lost the game by 6 wickets. Adil Bhatti took two wickets.  

California Golden Eagles played the inaugural game of the season against the Carolina Eagles. Batting first California put a score of 197 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets. Openers Nauman Anwar and Unmukt Chand scored half-centuries for CGE while Chad Bowes and Saif Badar (26 off 9 balls) put on a late show. Shadley van Schalkwyk took three wickets in return to help the California Golden Eagles win the game by 29 runs.

Atlanta Blackcaps Preview

Rakheem Cornwall and Smit Patel couldn’t do much in the first game for the Atlanta Balck Caps. But the team will have high hopes for both. Cornwall has an experience of playing 84 T20s in which he has scored 1397 runs at a strike rate of 147.67. His strike rate was 191.30 in the last season of USPL and had also picked 7 wickets in the 4 games at an economy of 6.73. He will be the batter to watch out for. Patel, who recently had his international T20 debut for the USA has a strike rate of 108.68. Saad Ali will come at number three. Ali scored 191 runs in the last season. He was the leading run-scorer for the Black Caps in the first game (34).

Gauranshu Sharma, Syed Abdullah, Ali Sheikh, and all-rounder Calvin Savage will come in the middle. Savage scored 106 runs in the three innings he played last season. This included a knock of 78 runs from 36 deliveries against the California Golden Eagles. Savage scored 28 runs in the first game. Ali Sheikh will be used as a regular bowler. Sheikh scored 28 runs with the bat and picked up a wicket in the game against the Mavericks. Last season he picked up 7 wickets with a strike rate of 13.

Naqash Basharat, Stephen Wiig, Adil Bhatti, and Amila Aponso will lead the bowling unit. Bhatti will be the bowler to watch out for. He took two wickets in the first game. Stephen Wiig who played 46 T20 games in the minor league has 59 wickets at an economy of 6.70. Former Sri Lankan legspinner Amila Aponso comes with experience of 12 international games in which he has picked 13 wickets.

Unmukt Chand will open the innings with Nauman Anwar. Chand, the 2012 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup winner, has scored 1795 runs in 90 T20s played so far at a strike rate of 115.28. His opening partner, Nauman Anwar has played a T20I for Pakistan and has a strike rate of 125. The duo put up a partnership of 123 runs in the first game where Chand scored 63 while Anwar contributed 63 runs with a collective strike rate of 140.

Skipper Monark Patel will come at number three. Monark comes with an experience of 34 T20I games and has a strike rate of 124.43. He scored three consecutive ODI half-centuries at the same venue a month back in the series against Nepal and Scotland. Chaitanya Bishnoi will come in the middle with Saif Badar and Chad Bowes. Badar was the second-leading run-scorer in the last USPL with 229 runs in 5 games. Badar continued his form this season with an unbeaten 26 runs in 9 balls of the first game. Bowes is the squad's most experienced player, having played 17 international games for New Zealand. In 110 T20s, Bowes has scored 2769 runs at a strike rate of 136.33 - the highest among the batters. He scored 35 off 21 balls in the first game.

Junaid Siddiqui will lead the bowling unit with Carmi le Roux, Shadley van Schalkwyk, and Ghulam Mudassar. Siddiqui was their leading wicket-taker last season with 7 wickets in 5 games. Carmi le Roux has picked 23 wickets in 22 T20s so far at an economy of 6.77. Schalkwyk has 15 wickets in 14 T20Is. Bishnoi will be the fifth bowler for California.
