Bangladesh and Pakistan will fight it out for the 3rd place after losing their respective semi-final bouts. Bangladesh faced India in the semi-final where they finished with 96 for 9 batting first. 

Pakistan, on the other hand, lost to Afghanistan after they were bowled out for just 115 runs batting first. The bowlers look promising as they bagged 6 wickets while defending such a small total and bowled out Hong Kong for 92 runs in the Quarter-Final.

But their batters have struggled big time and in spite of some big names in the lineup, Pakistan have been underwhelming with the bat. Bangladesh survived narrowly in the Quarter-Final against Malaysia as they defended 5 runs in the last over.

Bangladesh Preview

Bangladesh will be disappointed after their recent loss to India in the semi-final. It was clear at the outset that India were big favorites coming into this match with many T20 stars in their lineup.

Still, this batting performance from Bangladesh reflects badly on their bench strength. They have an experienced all-rounder in Afif Hossain and a Test player in Mahmudul Hasan Joy. 

Most of the other players have hardly played any international games. An inexperienced side like this against a quality bowling attack was always bad news for Bangladesh.

And now they will be facing the likes of Usman Qadir, Khushdil Shah, and Sufiyan Muqeem in the 3rd place play-off match. It will not be an easy outing for Saif Hassan and Co.

The skipper needs to lead from the front and build strong partnerships in the middle with the help of Zakir Khan and Afif Hossain. Though it is deep lineup, a lot depends on the top 4. 

Without a good start and partnerships up top, efforts from the lower order won’t take Bangladesh very far. Ripon Mondol, Afif Hossain, and Rakibul Hasan will be the key bowlers to watch out for.

Pakistan must be shaken after losing to Afghanistan in the semi-final. It was always going to be a tough battle given Afghanistan featured some experienced players in every department.

That may not have been an even contest as far as the squad strength was concerned. However, in the 3rd place play-off, both teams are equally matched given the number of inexperienced players in their side.

However, Pakistan bring in some quality batters like Haider Ali, Khushdil Shah, and Asif Ali who play a key role in the middle order. 

While they failed in their roles against Afghanistan, skipper Qasim Akram will be expecting them to stage a comeback in this game. These three batters are in crucial positions in the batting order and their failure would cost them the match.

Spinners have enjoyed bowling on this pitch. And in this side, Usman Qadir will be a key bowler along with Khushdil Shah and Sufiyan Muqeem. The skipper himself is a batting all-rounder who bowls right-arm off-break and can deliver a breakthrough.

Arafat Minhas, who’s played just 2 T20Is so far, both in this tournament, is another promising wicket-taker to watch out for. With 5 spinners and just one medium-pace bowler, Pakistan are all set to pose a tough challenge to a struggling Bangladesh batting lineup.

Pingfeld Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou has hosted all the Asian Games Men’s T20I matches so far and will be the venue for the 3rd place play-off as well. It is not a very high-scoring venue in spite of its small dimensions. We reckon 135-140 runs can be a highly competitive 1st innings total at this venue considering the pitch conditions and the current form of both teams.

Toss: To Bowl

Looking at the recent low-scoring games, we reckon both skippers will be looking to bowl first and restrict the opposition to below-par total with a strong spin-bowling attack. Chasing is still quite challenging here, but after a good bowling performance in the 1st innings, the chasing team will have the momentum on their side.
