As we gear up for yet another intriguing edition of ACC U-19 Asia Cup, defending champions Bangladesh U-19 square off against Afghanistan U-19 at Dubai International Stadium. As these being youth cricket most of the players will make their first appearance at international level in the ODI format.
Both teams have had contrasting results over the last year where Bangladesh U-19 enter the tournament on the back of three wins in their last five games, while Afghanistan U-19 won only one of their last five games, where they last won against USA U-19 by three wickets in January.
The Bagla Tigers who look to get better and test their batting lineup, this tournament serves as a testing period as they look to rebuild their squad with most of their top performers have crossed the age-limit and a lot of young stars with little to no experience make their way. Afghanistan on the other hand look to have a well settled lineup with most of their players that were part of the ICC ODI World Cup in January are still part of this squad.

Bangladesh U-19 who last played in the ICC Men's U19 ODI World Cup, finished the group stage with two wins in three matches and in the super six stage they almost made it to the semi's if not for the five run loss against PAK-U19 in their last league match.
Mohammad Shihab James was the best batter in that tournament where he scored 166 runs in five matches at an average of 41.50. The other stars who are part of the current squad from that tournament are Maruf Mridha who has a very good record in List A cricket where he has 19 wickets to his tally in 10 matches, he will open the bowling for the Bangla Tigers and look to exploit the conditions and seam movement and look to provide early breakthroughs. His bowling partner will be Iqbal Hossain who has an economy of 6.50 in list A cricket but is very lethal in the powerplay overs with his outswingers.
In the spin department Md Rafi Uzzaman Rafi who has 33 wickets in 17 YODI's will be key in this fixture, he is averaging two wickets per game in UAE he has picked up 7 wickets in5 matches. Zawad Abrar, MD Azizul Hakim Tamim form the middle order, the Bangla do have a lot of bowling all-rounders in their squad which increases their depth of their batting and the top 8 batters can contribute heavily.

The weather at Dubai International Stadium is expected to be sunny on match day, with temperatures ranging between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius. Winds will blow from the southeast at 23-24 km/h. It is known for producing belters, where batsmen can play through the line on even-paced wickets. However, in recent times, spinners have made their mark.
The surface at Dubai favours the faster bowlers in the initial overs and as the game progresses it gets conducive to spin. It is a moderate scoring ground where the average 1st innings score in 33 ODI matches played is 228. In Youth ODI's the score drops even lower, the last time an U-19 international ODI match was played at this venue the 1st innings score was 106. Expect a low scoring game and spinners will be key to their teams chances of winning.
The pitch at Dubai International Stadium gets better as the game progresses and teams batting second have won 20 of the 33 ODI matches played at this venue, but as it is a day game the surface is expected to remain the same in both the innings. With both teams boasting a quality bowling attack, the team that wins the toss will opt to bat first.
The odds are in favour of Afghanistan U-19 to win the match, most of the players are accustomed to the conditions having played the Asia Cup emerging tournament, while Bangladesh who do hold a good record against their opponents, have been off-boil with their batting performances in recent times.
