The defending champions will kick off their campaign against the 2022 Women’s L runners-up Barbados Royals. The new season of Women’s L will feature 7 matches which is a little more than last season.

Moreover, there are two venues this year with the first three games being played in Barbados. The Royals kicked off their campaign with a convincing win against Guyana at the Kensington Oval.

Last season saw some very low-scoring games including the final where TKR defended a 100-run total as they bowled out Barbados Royals Women for just 90 runs.

However, this year, the Royals have started on a strong note chasing down a 167-run target in the opening game. The new gs of Gaby Lewis, Laura Harris, and Erin Burns have definitely added a lot of firepower to their squad.

TKR Women have also made some major changes to their squad this season. The most remarkable of all was the g of Dane van Niekerk.

Barbados Royals Preview

Barbados Royals look very promising this year with some changes to the squad and the win in the opening game. Women’s L has come to Barbados this year which offers a high-scoring venue with a good batting wicket.

That coupled with some exciting players drafted in the squads, this season will be a lot more exciting than the previous one. Skipper Hayley Matthews will be expecting her bowlers to improve on their recent performance.

Even with 7 bowlers, Barbados Royals Women could only pick up 2 wickets while conceding 166 runs bowling first. They failed to dismiss Sophie Devine who was unbeaten on 103 runs.

Afy Fletcher was the most economical bowler with none for 17 from her 4 Overs. Along with Fletcher, Hayley Matthews, and Qiana Joseph will also be the key bowlers for Barbados Women in this match.

The right-arm leg-break bowler from Australia, Amanda-Jade Wellington has ed the Royals camp this year. She delivered the first breakthrough against Guyana and was quite impressive in her spell.

Opening batter from Ireland Gaby Lewis has definitely shown promise with her recent performance and will be a key player for the Royals this season. The biggest strength in this batting lineup lies in the middle order with Laura Harris and Erin Burns at number 4 and 5.

Barbados Royals Predicted Playing XI:

Hayley Matthews (c), Gaby Lewis, Rashada Williams (wk), Laura Harris, Erin Burns, Aaliyah Alleyne, Chedean Nation, Chinelle Henry, Afy Fletcher, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Qiana Joseph

Barbados Royals Actual Playing XI:

Hayley Matthews, Amanda Jade Wellington, Rashada Williams, Gaby Lewis, Chedean Nation, Chinelle Henry, Qiana Joseph, Laura Kimmince Harris, Afy Fletcher, Aaliyah Alleyne, Erin Burns

Trinbago Knight Riders Preview

Skipper Deandra Dottin will be hoping for a better outing this time around. Though they won the title last year, they failed to put a decent score on the board and it was the bowlers who pulled off unbelievable victories.

They’ve got the experienced South African batter Mignon du Preez in the squad this year. They’ve let go bowling all-rounders Hayle Jensen and Sune Luus and brought in Orla Prednargast and Dane van Niekerk.

Replacing bowling all-rounders with batting all-rounders should help their batting lineup this season. Also, Dane van Niekerk has been in great form and delivered some impressive performances in the Women’s Hundred competition.

These two should be the key players in the middle order while Mignon du Preez could open the innings with Dottin. Another overseas player to watch out for in this squad is Fran Jones, the 19-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler from New Zealand.

Anisa Mohammed is the only bowling all-rounder in the TKR squad this time around with 4 batting all-rounders. Mohammed is crucial in the bowling attack but it was the two overseas bowling all-rounders who did the best job last season.

This time around Knight Riders will be looking up to Shamilia Conell, Lee-Ann Kirby, and Fran Jones to lead with wickets.

Trinbago Knight Riders Predicted Playing XI:

Deandra Dottin (c), Mignon du Preez, Britney Cooper, Orla Prendergast, Dane van Niekerk, Zaida James, Kycia Knight, Anisa Mohammed, Lee-Ann Kirby, Shamilia Connell, Fran Jonas

Trinbago Knight Riders Actual Playing XI:

Shamilia Connell, Kycia Knight, Carena Noel, Kyshona Knight, Lee Ann Kirby, Anisa Mohammed, Mignon du Preez, Zaida James, Britney Cooper, Fran Jonas, Marie Kelly

Weather Conditions

The pitch is great for batting and we can expect another high-scoring game here. This is a lot better than last season where both encounters between these two teams were low-scoring affairs including the Final. An improved squad and a good batting wicket promise a high-intensity T20 match between the Royals and the Kngith Riders. The weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 31 degrees Celsius.

Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados will be the venue for this match. It is a high-scoring venue and since the pitch doesn’t change a great deal in the course of the game, teams batting second would also find ample from the surface. As such, a 1st innings score of 175 or more should be a competitive total at this venue.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams bowling first have the upper hand on this ground. Royals successfully chased down a total in the last game. Both teams have quality all-rounders in the middle order who can finish the game for them. Both skippers are likely to opt to bowl first considering the pitch conditions and their squad strengths.

Barbados Royals will be out to settle scores with Trinbago Knight Riders. They lost both games against the TKR Women last season and will be confident coming into this game after their recent win. It seems like a close contest between the two sides considering their squad strength.

However, given the head-to-head record and the batting strength of TKR in contrast with the bowling struggles of the Royals, we reckon Trinbago Knight Riders Women will have a slight edge going into this match.
