Central Hinds Preview

Central Hines have started the season poorly and are at the bottom of the table with two losses in two games so far in Women's Super Smash 2024-25. They have the worst run rate among six teams at minus 0.722. Can they break the losing run and win this encounter against Northern Brave?

In the first game, Central Hinds were up against Otago Women. Batting first, Central Hinds scored just 89 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Hollie Armitage top-scored with unbeaten 32 runs innings. The defense actually went much better than Central Hinds would have expected. They stretched the game to 20th over but lost by 1 wicket with 1 ball to go. Hannah Rowe took 3 wickets for 13 while Rosemary Mair and Ocean Bartlett took 2 wickets each.

In the second game, Central Hinds suffered a much more comprehensive defeat, bowling first against Wellington. Central Hinds conceded 114 for 8 bowling first. It was a good bowling performance to restrict Wellington to an under-par score. Rosemary Mair and Ocean Bartlett took two wickets each.

The chase, however, went horribly wrong. At one point, Central Hinds were 37 for 5 in the 10th over. A rear-guard effort from Rosemary Mair took them to a slightly better score of 89 runs. Central Hinds lost the low-scoring match by a comprehensive margin of 25 runs. While Central Hinds are bowling well, their batting is much below par and they will have to raise the standards if they want to their first win of the season against Northern Brave.

Key players: Hollie Armitage, Rosemary Mair, Ocean Bartlett, Hannah Rowe

Northern Brave Preview

Like Central Hinds, Northern Brave too have played two games so far. While their first game against Auckland Hearts was washed out due to rain, they suffered a close defeat against Wellington in their second game. Northern Brave too are without a win so far in this tournament and this is their chance to their first win of the season.

Northern Brave was fortunate that the rain saved them from a loss against Auckland Hearts in their opening game of the season. When rain stopped play, Northern Brave had scored 67 for 7 in 12 overs. Only two batters scored in two digits. No further play was possible as two points were shared between Auckland Hearts and Northern Brave.

The second game must have given Northern Braves some confidence despite a close four-run loss against Wellington Blaze. Bowling first, Northern Braves conceded 150 for three in 20 overs. Barring Marama Downs and Amanda-Jade Wellington, all the remaining bowlers went for runs.

The chase was very interesting. Northern Braves were 99 for 7 in the 15th over and the target looked beyond their reach. However, Carol Agafili, batting at number 9, scored a quick-fire 40 runs of just 28 balls to get Northern Brave in sight of victory. However, Northern Braves fell short by four runs in the end. Despite the loss, Northern Brave understood that they have the batting to score big runs. They should use this confidence against a weak batting team such as Central Hinds.

Key players: Carol Agafili, Marama Downes, Chamari Athapaththu, Amanda-Jade Wellington

Northern Brave Predicted Playing XI:

Jess Watkin (c), Chamari Athapaththu, Caitlin Gurrey, Nensi Patel, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Yasmeen Kareem, Eve Wolland, Carol Agafili, Holly Topp (wk), Marama Downes, Shriya Naidu

Weather Conditions

CH-W vs NBW-W Pitch Report

The stadium was established in 2009 underthe Nelson Cricket Association. This venue has hosted a few international matches including T20s and ODIs. This was one of the venues for three matches in ODI Cricket World Cup 2015. It is also a venue for local tournaments such as Plunket Shield and Super Smash. The venue has a seating capacity of around 6,000 spectators.

Toss: To Bowl

Out of the two T20 Internationals played at this venue, the batting team won both times. In Women's Super Smash 2024-25, one game has been played at this venue, which was won by Wellington Blaze, batting first against Central Heights. This looks like a bat-first wicket. The team winning the toss should bat first here.

Central Hinds and Northern Brave are the bottom dwellers after two matches each in Women's Super Smash 24-25. While Central Hinds have two defeats against their name, Northern Brave came close to winning their second match after the first one against Auckland Hearts was washed out. The main difference between these two teams is a stronger batting unit of Northern Brave compared to a much weaker Central Hinds batting unit. We believe Northern Brave have a slight advantage over Central Hinds in this game.

We predict that Northern Brave will defeat Central Hinds.
