The first season of Legend 90 League is here and the opening game will be played between Chattisgarh Warriors led by Suresh Raina and Delhi Royals led by Shikhar Dhawan.

The match will be at Raipur's Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. The venue has hosted only 1 T20I so far which was played between India and Australia in 2023.

Many of the T20 legends from the past will be seen in this tournament. Martin Guptill will return to T20 cricket after retiring from international cricket. He will be seen donning the Warriors jersey along with his former Blackcaps teammate Colin de Grandhomme.

Ross Taylor is another former Kiwi T20 star who will be playing for the Delhi Royals under Dhawan’s leadership. The Royals have also got Lendl Simmons who’s known for his big-hitting in the powerplay.

Chhattisgarh Warriors Preview

Chattisgarh Warriors have a great variety in the squad. The number of all-rounders will allow the skipper to field a balanced XI.

In addition to Colin de Grandhomme, they have Kevon Cooper, Rishi Dhawan, and Amit Verma in the all-rounders department, to name a few. We reckon Rishi Dhawan will be a key player with the ball for the Warriors.

He showed great potential when he played for Punjab Kings in the IPL. He will also be very handy in the lower middle order. Martin Guptill is likely to open the innings for Chattisgarh Warriors.

He will have a great opening partner in Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Guptill delivered a few brilliant knocks in domestic T20 cricket recently and looks in good form.

Skipper Suresh Raina will be one to watch out for at number 3 followed by another gem of Indian cricket Ambati Rayudu. The middle-order is a dream team with Colin de Grandhomme to come in at 4 followed by Sheldon Jackson and Kevon Cooper at 5 and 6.

There are just endless batting options for the Warriors. They also strike a great balance between experience and youth in their side. In the bowling department, Pawan Negi will be one to watch out for with his left-arm orthodox bowling.

In the pace department, the Warriors will rely on Abhimanyu Mithun and Siddharth Kaul, two of the most promising players who played for India U19 but couldn’t make it big.

Delhi Royals Preview

Though it lacks variety, the Delhi Royals squad has a great balance. They will pose a tough challenge to the star-studded Warriors in the opening game of the Legend 90 League.

Most of their star players haven’t been out of the game for a long time and we can expect them to find their rhythm right away and make a big impact. Danushka Gunathilaka and Shikhar Dhawan are the most likely candidates for the opening duo.

Both are left-handed batters and the former was a reliable top-order batsman for Sri Lanka in the limited-overs format. If the skipper wants a left-hand right-hand combination, he can consider Lendl Simmons to open alongside him instead.

Simmons has been out of the limelight for quite some time. He was at the peak of his powers during his stint at the Mumbai Indians camp in IPL. He is an attacking opening batsman who scores quickly in the powerplay and gets the team off to a flying start.

The middle order can have Angelo Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka. Perera is another big-hitter and this will allow the Royals to maintain a right-hand left-hand combination throughout the middle order.

There are a couple of all-rounders in the squad to add some variety to the bowling attack and more depth to the batting order. Jerome Taylor and Parvindar Awana will be leading the bowling attack for Delhi Royals.

Overall, it is a good-looking squad as far as the batting lineup is concerned. The bowling doesn’t look as strong on paper, but the likes of Taylor and Awana are very promising, and with the from all-rounder Bipul Sharma, they can pose a tough challenge.

It is a bowling-friendly wicket with a lot of help on offer for the spinners. However, we can expect a newly made pitch for this game and there should be some help for the batters as well. The average 1st innings score in the last 10 T20s played here is 117 runs. These were all women’s domestic T20 matches and we expect a much better result with the bat in the Legend 90 League. We reckon the team batting first should be aiming for something over 170 to be in a competitive position.
