Yorkshire Vikings came out to play against Birmingham Bears as T20 Blast resumed, without Joe Root. However, there was someone else, another experienced T20 batter, who delivered for the Vikings in the top order.
Dawid Malan scored a half-century opening for the Vikings while Donovan Ferreira scored a quick-fire 65 off 32 balls at number 5. These two knocks had a stark contrast of strike rates.
Malan’s fifty didn’t make much of an impact on the cause. Yorkshire were chasing a 215-run target and 55 off 44 balls isn’t what you’re expecting from your opening batsman.
James Wharton looked in fine touch at number 3 and got off to a great start. He will be one to watch out for in this match. Shan Masood demoted himself to number 6 letting Ferreira bat ahead of him.
That was a good decision by all means. Masood hasn’t been striking as well as he’s expected to in this format of the game. You can’t have many batters in a lineup who have a similar approach.
