Within 48 hours of picking up their first win in this competition over Trinbago Knight Riders women, Guyana Amazon Warriors will be all set to go again.
To double down and get one foot in the door of the finals will be on top of their minds, as another face-off with the Riders awaits them at Tarouba this Sunday. Riders, on the other hand, will be desperate for a quick turnaround after two losses from two games.
More than anything, the Riders women will be devastated at seeing an opportunity to secure their first ever win against Guyana Warriors go begging.
With just two matches to go, they’ll be determined to put in a spirted display with the bat and much improved effort with the ball. One win in six games makes for terrible reading, and that should be enough motivation for the Riders to get out there in the middle and show their credentials.

The Riders batters getting off to a solid start, and a jittery beginning to their own chasing effort didn’t stop Guyana Amazon Warriors women from picking up their first win of the season. New ball bowler Shabnim Ismail returned figures of 1 for 17 off her four, making a mark with the ball. But her compatriot Chloe Tryon was the real deal with the ball, picking up four wickets in her quota of overs.
The South African star made the first broke through removing both the overs in a space of two overs, and then came back towards the end to dismiss Jess Jonassen. Though the Riders got up to 130, the chase was on. But Natasha Mclean and Stefanie Taylor returned to the dugout without troubling the scorers, but captain Lauren Winfield-Hill put her hand up. She found an able partner in Aussie all-rounder Erin Burns, who impressed with a strokeful 78 off 48 balls.
She brought up her second fifty of the WL career and the first fifty in Guyanese colours. Such a free-flowing innings would do her confidence a world of good and she’d be hoping to contribute in this game. Overall, it was a great team effort last game, and the ladies will be hoping to produce another win and give themselves the best chance of featuring in another final.

A decent performance with the bat in the first innings amounted to nothing, as Knight Riders were hard done by in the second mainly due to their bowling effort struggling to keep the pressure on following an excellent start with the ball. They had Warriors batters on the mat with two wickets in the first overs, but a missed run-out chance in the fifth over of the game proved costly.
With the batters settling in nicely, Riders women became more listless with each ing over and went on to grass two catches, making it worse for themselves. Only Jess Jonassen bowled with control and showed signs of troubling the batters, but the rest of the attack was pretty ordinary and couldn’t stop Warriors who cruised home to a win in the 18th over.
Earlier, Riders batters showed great application to the pitch with each of their top four getting off to a solid start. Harshitha Madavi (33 off 28) and Deandra Dottin (20 off 27) put together a fifty-run partnership for the first wicket, and Jemimah Rodrigues (26 off 24) and Jonassen (28 0foff 23) played a good hand too coming in at #3 and #4.
Riders chalked up 130, a score that looked very much defendable at the halfway stage, and even more so when two of the Warriors batters were dismissed inside 3.3 overs. However, the bowlers had no answer to Lauren Winfield-Hill and Erin Burns.

The wicket seems to have eased up and gotten a lot better after the first couple of games. The earlier encounter between West Indies and South Africa saw over 350 runs being scored, too. Bowlers who can take the pace off and bowl good line and length will get purchase from the wicket, though. On the weather-front, things looking okay if not great with some morning showers forecast on game day.
This match is all set to take place at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba in Trinidad. Warriors ed their first win at this venue last game.
Win toss and opt to bowl first will be on top of the minds of both captains, considering that chasing teams have gone on to win all the three matches so far in the competition.
To clinch a win after being dominated for nearly 26 overs in the contest is a clear sign that Guyana Warriors women have a distinct edge over Riders mentally. They go into this contest with their tails up and they are going to be hard to beat.
