Islamabad United take on Peshawar Zalmi in a bid to get their derailing campaign back on track after two straight losses. Peshawar Zalmi, however, have worked out a bit of momentum. Having lost their first two matches, Peshawar Zalmi turned things around with a marginal victory over table toppers Multan Sultans and then backed it up with another solid win over reigning champs Lahore Qalandars.
One team needs a win to stop sliding further whereas another team has its eyes clearly set at moving up the points table and improving its NRR, so it doesn’t get left behind in the race to qualifiers. This match has all the makings to be an exciting contest. Besides, both these teams have a bit of history.
The 10-11 head to head record suggests that these two teams indulge in playing a bit of cat and mouse. Peshawar Zalmi, is slightly in the lead now, and will look to use their current form and momentum to notch another win over the United.

Islamabad United’s start to this year’s PSL has been up and down. A thumping victory against defending champions in the tournament opener set them up for a strong campaign, but they couldn’t build it into something big. Two subsequent losses followed, pulling them back from climbing up the points table and dashing their hopes of staying in touch with the rest of the pack in the race to the playoffs.
Barring a few individuals, the rest of the players have not quite been able to play to potential. Agha Salman and Shadab Khan have been exceptional for team United with the bat, but Colin Munro, Alex Hales and Azam Khan haven’t quite set the stage on fire yet. Shadab Khan, in particular, has demonstrated the value he could bring to any team, with his impressive all-round skills. He has scored valuable runs and picked up crucial wickets in the tournament to take Islamabad United where they are right now.
The United’s bowling has largely misfired, too, with only Naseem Shah and Tymal Mills showing glimpses of form and the ability to make breakthroughs whenever needed. Imad Wasim has not been at his best, and it’s clearly showing in Islamabad’s failure to run through oppositions or put a lid on their scoring.

Peshawar Zalmi’s PSL 2024 campaign has been a story of two tales. Two back to back losses to start their campaign off.
They make a few changes to the playing XI and then follows successive wins over Multan Sultans, the table-toppers now, and Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champs. Peshawar Zalmi resurgence, in part, can be attributed to how three of their in-form batsmen namely Babar Azam, Saim Ayub and Rovman Powell have gone about their business. They’ve scored a lion’s share of their team runs, with Babar Azam standing out with 4 30+ scores in the matches held so far.
Their run tally from 4 matches is at 734 now, meaning they’re averaging close to 183 a match, which is really remarkable. Bowling hasn’t been as effective or consistent though. Luke Wood and Salman Irshad have been dependable with the ball, with both picking up 6 wickets apiece. Naveen ul Haq has yet to hit his stride in the tournament while Arif Yaqoob and Brisbane Heat fame Paul Walter have chipped in with a few from their two appearances so far.
Better planning and better execution on acing their matchups with the ball would be right up there in the priority list, having survived two close encounters.
Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, Rassie van der Dussen, Shai Hope (wk), Sikandar Raza, Ahsan Bhatti, Jahandad Khan, Carlos Brathwaite, Shaheen Afridi (c), Mohammad Imran, Zaman Khan.

The deck here offers great value for shots and the batsmen have cashed in this season. 3 of the matches held here so far have seen teams getting above 200 to finish off their innings. One of the best batting wickets in the tournament, this has allowed bowlers to have a sniff too. The weather forecast suggests we might see the weather being bright and clear during game day. Forecast not showing signs of rain interrupting the contest.

Average TurnGadaffi Stadium, Lahore has been excellent or worse for the Islamabad United, who chased 200 in no time one day and fell through succumbing to 138 against the Quetta Gladiators on another day. Peshawar Zalmi, with just one win and two drubbings in three matches here, has had it slightly worse.
Chasing teams have lost two out of seven fixtures at Lahore, but one of the matches featuring Zalmi could have gone either way. There’s no doubt that the team winning the toss will consider putting the opposition in to bat.
Peshawar Zalmi has the momentum on its side, so Islamabad United may not find it easy to rein in the Peshawar boys. Zalmi to win.
We are backing Peshawar Zalmi as the winners of this contest.
