Sri Lanka has always been a country which has embraced shorter format cricket, from the days of Sanath Jayasuriya in his famous pinch-hitting role at the top of the order in their ODI side, to that of recent times when they have lifted the T20 World Cup as well as being a force across all limited overs cricket.

As a result, plenty expect this league to not only be well ed in Kandy from this first game onwards, but also to capture the attention of cricket fans young and old across the island and further afield.

Whatever happens, this is sure to be an exciting nine days of non-stop attacking cricket full of boundaries, wickets, spectacular catches and no doubts plenty of run-outs as well with every single run critical for success.

Jaffna Titans Preview

There are many fine players in the Jaffna squad but none have such a glowing reputation in white ball cricket as their skipper, bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga who is equally capable of winning a game with bat or ball.

At the top of the order, we expect Tom Kohler-Core and Kusal Mendis to waste few balls before going on the attack and Johnson Charles at number three will have a similar approach.

There is also plenty of depth in the middle and lower order with the trio of Dwaine Pretorius, George Garton and David Wiese likely to pile on additional runs.

With the ball, Hasaranga and Wellalage will be key in the spin department with Wiese, Pretorius and Mohammad Amir crucial with pace on.

Jaffna Titans Predicted Playing XI:

Tom Kohler-Core, Kusal Mendis (wk), Johnson Charles, Wanindu Hasaranga (c), Charith Asalanka, David Wiese, Dwaine Pretorius, George Garton, Dunith Wellalage, Mohammad Amir, Pramod Madushan

Jaffna Titans Actual Playing XI:

Tom Kohler Core, David Wiese, Pramod Madushan, Traveen Mathews, Pavan Rathnayake, Dwaine Pretorius, Charith Asalanka, Mohammad Amir, Thomas Abell, Malsha Tharupathi, Nuwanidu Fernando, Janith Liyanage

Hambantota Bangla Tigers Preview

Hambantota Bangla Tigers come into this tournament with high expectations but many pundits have pointed out that although they have an impressive batting line-up, their bowling stocks do look a little weak.

However, that is not necessarily terminal for the side and many short format teams, particularly in T10 cricket have managed to succeed with such an approach!

Whether the Bangla Tigers are able to do so will depend a great deal on the bowling of Richard Gleeson and Dasun Shanaka as well as the exciting young batting and bowling talent of Brian Bennett.

The Tigers must score big but they have the talent to do so!

Hambantota Bangla Tigers Predicted Playing XI:

Iftikhar Ahmed, Kusal Perera, Hazratullah Zazai, Isuru Udana, Dasun Shanaka, Soumya Sarkar, Chamath Gomez, Brian Bennett, Shevon Daniel, Karim Janat, Richard Gleeson

Hambantota Bangla Tigers Actual Playing XI:

Dasun Shanaka, Sahan Arachchige, Dhananjaya Lakshan, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Tharindu Ratnayake, Shevon Daniel, Isuru Udana, Richard Gleeson, Mohammad Shahzad, Kusal Perera, Sabbir Rahman, Eshan Malinga

The Kandy pitch has traditionally been one which spins a great deal and keeps low. However, for this tournament we expect to see plenty more bounce and carry from the surface.

Toss: To Bowl

It's a simple formula in T10 cricket. Keep the opposition down to as few runs as possible before chasing down the total. We predict that both teams will want to bowl first.

With this being the first game of the inaugural tournament, we have no team data to base our prediction on. Everything is judged on the ability of the players in each team, which means, with their superior bowling attack, we have Jaffna Titans to come out as winners.

We are backing Jaffna Titans to win!
