Kolkata Knight Riders didn’t have a great season last year as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. Their batting was inconsistent, to say the least. Though there are many promising players in this lineup and Rinku Singh emerged as a rising star last year, the Knight Riders need consistency from their key batters.
Nitish Rana was impressive in the middle-order but as a skipper often found himself without a lot of . He will be happy to have Shreyas Iyer back and should be looking to play his natural, aggressive brand of cricket.
With Roy and N Jagadeesan out of the squad this year, Rahmanulla Gurbaz will find a new opening partner. Considering how crucial Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have been to the KKR lineup, it seems highly likely that these two will be part of the XI.
Having said that, the remaining two spots for the overseas players will have a lot of competition. Mitchell Starc was bought for Rs.24.75 crores and KKR would like him to deliver. The remaining overseas spot is likely to go for a batter, and potentially either Gurbaz or Salt.
On the local players' front, the good news is Manish Pandey coming into the squad. That adds a lot of experience to this side. He can be a great number 3 while Venkatesh Iyer could open alongside Gurbaz.
