London Spirit and Manchester Originals are effectively playing for pride when the two teams meet each other at the Lord’s for the 23rd match in the men’s game. Manchester Originals are still waiting for the first win of the group after losing five consecutive games. Meanwhile, London Spirit have fared only slightly better following a return of two points from the five matches. Even with a victory in the game, London Spirit do not have any great chance of finishing in the top three.

Over the years, the matches between Manchester Originals and London Spirit have been very difficult to call in the Men’s Hundred competition. The recent string of losses, though, has increased the stakes for the two teams to at least end the season on a high.

London Spirit Preview

London Spirit put up a decent fight against the Trent Rockets and they fell short by just 22 runs in the end. It is a defeat that puts a big dent in any small hope of reaching the finals, as London Spirit trail the top three places by four points with three matches left. After having finished last season in seventh place, London Spirit would have been hoping to bring back the glory days of 2022 when the team finished third.

For a brief period against the Trent Rockets, the middle order seemed to be in good shape to help London Spirit to only the second win of the season. The 49-run partnership between Russell and Critchley provided the team with a ray of hope. Once it was broken, there was little resistance from the Spirit. Dawson is the top scorer in the squad with 101 runs from his five innings.

Liam Dawson picked up one wicket in the loss against Trent Rockets to take his season’s tally to 7 at an average of 14. Nathan Ellis, who is the second on the list with five wickets, failed to make any impact against the Trent Rockets.

London Spirit Predicted Playing XI:

Michael Pepper, Keaton Jennings, Ollie Pope, Dan Lawrence (c), Shimron Hetmyer, Matt Critchley, Andre Russell, Liam Dawson, Olly Stone, Nathan Ellis, Richard Gleeson

Manchester Originals Preview

The disappointing season continues for Manchester Originals who have been unable to end the losing streak. After managing to finish second in the group stages last season, it is an incredible fall for Manchester Originals, who are yet to pick up a first win. The team will not be able to qualify for the eliminators given their six-point deficit to the third place.

Despite the defeat against Oval Invincibles, there are plenty of positives for Manchester Originals to take from the game including the performance of Matthew Hurst. The 20-year-old has come up with back-to-back half-centuries and he provided a false start for the team. The middle and lower order failed to provide any noteworthy contribution for Manchester. Hurst is the top scorer for the team with 130 runs from his three innings at a strike rate of 168. Phil Salt was one of the top scorers for the Originals in 2023 with 232 runs, but he has only averaged 19.40 this season after grabbing 97 runs from five innings.

Usama Mir was once again the pick of the bowlers against Oval Invincibles while Sikandar Raza also ed the party with two wickets. The duo have managed five and four wickets respectively.

Manchester Originals Predicted Playing XI:

Phil Salt (c), Matthew Hurst, Wayne Madsen, Paul Walter, Jamie Overton, Sikandar Raza, Usama Mir, Max Holden, Tom Hartley, Scott Currie, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Weather Conditions

The pitch will be favourable to bowlers going by the turn of events in 2024. Last season, the average match total was 316 but this has dropped down to just 237 in 2024. The pitch has assisted teams chasing the game. There will be partly cloudy conditions during the game with maximum temperatures hitting 24°C. If there is any rain, it is likely to occur early in the day and without troubling the game.

LDN vs MCR Pitch Report

The Lord’s has witnessed an average score of 123 in the first innings of the 2024 Hundred Men’s competition while the second innings score average stood at 114. London Spirit have averaged 113 in their three innings at this venue in 2024. Last season, the venue enjoyed higher average scores with the first and second innings numbers standing at 161 and 154 respectively.

Toss: To Bowl

The toss winner has come out successful in all three Hundred men’s fixtures at the Lord’s this season. The teams batting second have come out successful on two occasions while the team batting first has won the game on one occasion.

London Spirit are going up against last season’s finalist, who only have to play for pride in the games. Manchester Originals remain strong in the batting segment but they are likely to struggle on the Lord’s pitch, which has been friendly for bowlers this season. London Spirit could capitalise on the same for a second win.

Our prediction is for London Spirit to win
