Although this County Championship Division Two clash sees first place Leicestershire host Lancashire in seventh, it is unlikely to be a 'walk in the park' for the home side irrespective of what many expect!

Ahead of this gameweek, round seven of this year's division, Leicestershire are 30 points clear at the top of the table and will be targeting a fourth victory in a row.

Lancashire made it six games without a victory so far this season when they drew with second placed Derbyshire at Old Trafford last week in a match which saw the return of former England swing bowler Jimmy Anderson.

Only Lancashire looked like winning that game and they will carry plenty of self-belief into this fixture in Leicester.

Leicestershire Preview

It was a seven wicket victory for Leicestershire at Lord's against Middlesex last week as the Foxes made it four wins from six and extended their lead at the top of the County Championship Division Two table.

Leicestershire got ahead with a 42 run lead at the end of the first innings and never looked back, eventually getting to their target in the fourth innings of the match just three wickets down.

Ian Holland, Logan van Beek and Ben Green were the standout performers with the ball in that match although all six of the bowling attack picked up at least one wicket in the first innings!

With the bat, captain Peter Handscomb was the most impressive for Leicestershire at Lord's and opener Rishi Patel will be looking to get back to making big runs after making a century in the last game in Leicester.

Leicestershire Predicted Playing XI:

Rishi Patel, Sol Budinger, Rehan Ahmed, Lewis Hill, Peter Handscomb (c), Ian Holland, Ben Cox (wk), Logan van Beek, Ben Green, Tom Scriven, Josh Hull

Lancashire Preview

Only two wickets separated a victory for Lancashire against Derbyshire last week but the team will come to Leicestershire will renewed self-belief after dominating the match at Old Trafford.

Lancashire posted 458 in the first innings before a quick-fire declaration of 184/7 but could not get Derbyshire any closer to being all out when the teams shook hands on 220/8.

Former skipper Keaton Jennings and Josh Bohannon both made single figure scores in the first innings but Luke Wells (141), Marcus Harris (45), Matty Hurst (51), George Bell (57), George Balderson (73) and Tom Hartley (42) all impressed.

With the ball, Jimmy Anderson returned to action with five wickets and England international left-arm spinner also dismissed the same number in an impressive showing.

Lancashire Predicted Playing XI:

Luke Wells, Keaton Jennings, Josh Bohannon, Marcus Harris (c), Matty Hurst (wk), George Bell, George Balderson, Tom Hartley, Tom Bailey, Anderson Phillip, Jimmy Anderson

Weather Conditions

There could be some rain on Saturday but otherwise the weather forecast is set to be calm throughout this game in Leicester. A peak temperature will be around 19 degrees with plenty of cloud cover from start to finish.

LEI vs LAN Pitch Report

Grace Road is a good batting wicket but often the spinners come into the game across the final two days. Equally, with the overhead conditions, swing bowlers could play a big role.

Toss: To Bat

The best time to bat will be over the first day and a half in Leicester so we predict that both captains will choose to bat first should they win the toss ahead of this game at Grace Road.

This could be one of the most interesting games of the season in the division as Lancashire, under new captain Marcus Harris and with Jimmy Anderson back from injury, suddenly look far stronger. Leicestershire have been impressive all season but we expect them to fall to their first defeat in this game.

We are backing Lancashire to win!
