Leicestershire will take on Surrey in the 44th match of the One Day Cup 2024 Kibworth Cricket Club New Ground on 6 August 2024 at 3:30 p.m. There is a gulf of difference in the manner in which these two teams have played so far in the tournament and the confidence they bring into this encounter.
Surrey are, for all practical purposes, already out of the tournament. Five games into this season, they are still searching for their first win. On the other hand, the Leicestershire Foxes have managed three wins in four games and have a good chance of making it to the knockouts. It’s a no-pressure game for Surrey in that sense. Can they crash the Leicestershire party in this game?

Leicestershire Foxes have just one loss after four games amid three comfortable wins. Among the top five teams, the Leicestershire Foxes are the only ones with four games, while the rest have already played five games each. This is an excellent chance for them, especially against the weakest team of the tournament, to get closer to cementing a place in the Quarterfinals.
Leicestershire would want to take every game that comes their way from now on, for they don’t want to bring the Net Run Rate into the equation. That’s because they have the second-worst NRR this season in Group B, only ahead of Surrey. The huge defeat they suffered against Warwickshire (by 8 wickets with 196 balls to spare) has damaged their NRR beyond repair.
Apart from that outlier defeat, the Leicester Foxes have been commendable. In their previous game against Sussex, the Foxes scored a huge total of 363 for 7 after Peter Handscomb scored a handsome century (119 runs off just 80 balls). The defence proved tricky on a good batting surface, but Ben Mike and Matt Salisbury combined to take 5 opposition wickets and won the game by 10 runs.
Sol Budinger has been superb so far, with 297 runs at 74.25 this season. Bowling has been an issue for the Foxes this season, but Ben Mike and Tom Scriven have been holding the fort with 6 wickets each so far. Nonetheless, this should be an easy win for the Foxes.

Nothing changes in the points column day after day for Surrey this season. Surrey and Sussex remain the only teams with no wins under their belt after 5 games. What’s worse, Surrey also have the worst NRR among teams in group B.
In their previous game against Nottinghamshire, Surrey conceded 378 in the 50 overs. Opener Ben Slater hammered Surrey bowlers for 164 runs in just 119 balls. Conor McKerr took 3 wickets but went for about 8 runs an over. In reply, Surrey never got to the scoring rate needed to win the match. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got all down in the 44th over for 271, losing the game by a whopping 107 runs. Conor McKerr’s late onslaught of 71 off just 36 balls meant they reached a respectable total in the end.
Dominic Sibley has been among the runs, while McKerr has been performing well for Surrey as an all-rounder. Cameron Steel (9 wickets) and James Taylor (7 wickets) would lead the bowling attack. Can Surrey find a rare win here? The chances are bleak.
Key players: Conor McKerr,Dominic Sibley, Cameron Steel, James Philip Arthur Taylor
Ryan Patel, Dominic Sibley, Ben Geddes, Rory Burns (c), Ben Foakes, Cameron Steel, Josh Blake (wk), Conor McKerr, Nathan Barnwell, Yousef Majid, James Philip Arthur Taylor

The weather on the match day is expected to range from a low of 12°C to a high of 21°C with light rain showers. It will be somewhat cloudy with occasional rain. It’s going to be a typical British summer day.
The venue of the match is Kibworth Cricket Club New Ground. It was established in 2006. It is home to Kibworth Cricket Club, which competes in the Leicestershire Premier Cricket League. It is a large group that has hosted a couple of Women’s ODIs.
Given that there’s a possibility of rain on match day at Kibworth Cricket Club New Ground, the team winning the toss would like to chase in wet conditions with a clear target ahead of them. The team winning the toss should bowl first here.
It’s a mismatch, really. But cricket is full of uncertainties, although nothing has been more certain than Surrey's defeat this season. The Leicestershire Foxes have been scoring well. Their bowling needs some boost, but it hasn’t been a big issue so far. Surrey, well, nothing is clicking for them. Sadly, there are no signs that the situation will change for them. It looks like a cakewalk for the Foxes against Surrey in this game.
We predict that Leicestershire Foxes will defeat Surrey.
