Lions Preview

Dominic Hendricks would like to put behind the poor show in the last game. They made a mess with the bat, scoring only 89 runs batting first. It will take a lot of heart for the side to make a strong comeback in this game, and Hendricks will look for a determined effort from his players.  

The side would need a good start in this game from Joshua Richards and Ryan Rickelton, as he was the only player who did well. The middle order failed to sur single-digit scores and the trio of Hendricks, Zubayr Hamza, and Mitchell Van Buuren must add runs. They will also need a good show from Wiaan Mulder and Delano Potgieter in the lower middle order.  

The bowling attack must compensate for the lack of form in the batting line-up. The side will need a good show with the new ball from Bjorn Fortuin and Wiaan Mulder. Malusi Siboto and Tsepo Ndwandwa must do well in the middle overs. The side will need a good show in the ing role from Tshepo Moreki.

Kyle Verreynne's team has started the season on a positive note. It was a good show from their batsmen in the last game against North West, where they won by 6 wickets under the DLS method. Their opponents lost the last game by a huge margin and Verreynne would like to exploit this and move up on the points table with a win.  

In this contest, the side will need a good start in this game from Jonathan Bird and Tony de Zorzi. Kyle Verreynne played a captain’s knock, hitting a hundred in the last game and he will look to build partnerships with Yaseen Valli and Edward Moore. Mihlali Mpongwana and Kyle Simmonds add depth to this batting line-up.  

Beuran Hendricks and Nandre Burger bowled well with the new ball in the last game and the side will expect similar spells from them. Mihlali Mpongwana bowled tight spells in the last game and will feel confident in this match. Kyle Simmonds, Mthiwekhaya Nabe, and Bird add depth to this bowling attack.

The New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, is by far the best batting wicket in South Africa. A fast outfield adds to the advantage of the batsmen. Stroke makers have done well in the past as it is easy to play through the line. Fast bowlers willing to test the batsmen bowling up have also achieved a return from the wicket.
