Malaysia will be taking on Qatar in the 12th match of the ACC Men’s T20I Premier Cup in Al Amerat. Amidst the trend of high-scoring in the tournament, these two teams have been the exception.
Malaysia scored 146 and 143 batting first in their last two outings while Qatar lost early wickets in chase of 200+ totals. They were 5 down for 99 runs in their last outing against Nepal.
Between these two, Qatar have been slightly better in the batting department. However, they will be up against a strong Malaysia bowling attack in this match. The in-form skipper Mohammad Tanvir needs from others to put Malaysia on the back foot.
The Malaysian captain is also in great form and led his side to a 12-run victory in the last outing with figures of 3 for 20. It should be a close contest between these two teams.

Virandeep Singh will be happy with the win but not with the overall efforts of his side. He was out for a duck after an unbeaten 72 in the opening match. However, he made up for it with a brilliant spell in which he dismissed the skipper of the opposition.
Vijay Unni, Pavandeep Singh, and Muhammad Amir Azim are other key wicket-takers for Malaysia. Keep an eye out for when these three have the ball in the match.
Though Virandeep Singh was the top scorer for the team in the opening game, his strike rate was very poor. He took 57 balls to score 72 runs as an opener. It was no wonder that they finished with just 143 for 3.
They are up against Qatar who have some quality batting in their side with their skipper striking the ball at an impressive strike rate. If Qatar manage to bounce back with some of their top-order batters finding their rhythm, these 140 scores will not be enough.
Sharvin Muniandy, Syed Aziz, and Ahmad Faiz need to step up and deliver in the middle order. Ahmed Aqeel’s 66-run knock at number 6 couldn’t get Malaysia that far because their middle order made almost no contribution.

Qatar fell short of the target on both occasions and will now be looking into their bowling department for answers. The bowling can’t be blamed given the batting-friendly conditions at the venue.
However, the batters need to be prepared to chase down 200 runs in this tournament. Qatar lost regular wickets in their recent run chase against Nepal and even with Tanvir’s brilliant knock, they were never close to winning the game.
On the surface, Qatar’s batting looks better because their scores are higher than those of Malaysia. However, when you take a deeper look Qatar have got many issues to deal with.
Only Muhammad Tanvir is one in form and a reliable batter in this lineup. Saqlain Arshad is another key batter in the top order along with Mohammad Ahnaff who’s looked promising though failed to convert his starts into something bigger.
These three will be crucial for Qatar to post a big total. There aren’t any reliable players in the middle and lower-middle order who could step up and play the finisher’s role for the side.
The bowlers, who’ve conceded 200+ in both matches so far, need to improve their performance and as they face a struggling Malaysia, should be confident of making a comeback.

It is a great batting pitch with some help for the bowlers as well. As the match progresses, batters should be able to time the ball easily and find more boundaries. There will be scattered thunderstorms in Al Amerat on the match day with a high of 29 degrees Celsius.
The 12th match of the tournament between Malaysia and Qatar will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground (Ministry Turf 2). Though most of the matches played here were high-scoring, Malaysia’s last game here was dominated by the bowlers from both teams. A 185-190 runs 1st inning score should be a highly competitive total in this match.
Batting first will be an ideal option for both teams in this match. Malaysia have decent bowling that can defend a total while Qatar aren’t in a great position to chase down a target.
Both teams have plenty of concerns to address as they come into this match. However, Malaysia’s deep lineup and in-form bowling attack put them slightly ahead of Qatar in our match prediction.
