Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder will lock horns again in the Women’s BBL at the Junction Oval, Melbourne. The last time these two teams met, SYT came out on top beating the Renegades by 8 wickets at the SCG.
The hosts have lost 2 of their 3 matches at this venue so far including the last game against the Sixers. Middle-order collapses have hurt them the most. Along with skipper Hayley Matthews at the top, Josephine Dooley and Harmanpreet Kaur have been out of form in the middle order.
Sydney Thunder were quite expensive against Hobart in the last match which allowed the latter to solidify their position in the match. They’ve got a deep batting lineup with some big names at 3, 4, and 5.
The bowlers will be the best hope for the home team with Georgia Wareham and Hayley Matthews leading the attack. Will the batters the party and lead the Renegades to their second win? Or will SYT make it 2-0?

It has been a pretty disappointing start to the season for Melbourne Renegades with 3 losses from just 4 matches so far. Nevertheless, it is early days in the league and they still have the chance to turn things around from here.
This game is crucial for the Renegades considering their recent batting failures. They must find their rhythm and form in this match. Their next two games will be at the W.A.C.A in Perth where the bowlers will be dominant and pose a tough challenge.
Hayley Matthews who scored brilliantly during the Windies tour of Australia has looked out of touch. She’s a match-winner who can single-handedly turn the game on its head and needs to fire at the top.
Her opening partner Tammy Beaumont has looked promising and delivered a brilliant start while chasing 165 against Sixers in the last match. However, the middle-order collapses in the last two outings have put the Renegades behind.
A 165-run target was quite gettable and the 42-run start in the first 4 Overs (powerplay) was just what MLR Women needed to chase it down. However, a struggling, out-of-form middle order cost them yet another match.
Kaur is an experienced big-hitting batter who needs to make a comeback if the hosts are to settle scores against the Thunder Women.
While they’ve got many options in the bowling attack, watch out for Hayley Matthews and Georgia Wareham who are the key wicket-takers in this attack.

After two consecutive fifties, Chamari Athapaththu looked completely out of touch as she scored 13 off 22 while chasing 175 runs against the Hurricanes.
This performance from the in-form opener put Thunder way behind the opposition in the chase and the quick wickets of both openers followed by the dismissal of the skipper Heather Knight was the game.
In a high-run chase, such a poor start can put a team so behind in the game that they never manage to win from there. Tahlia Wilson and Athapaththu need to quickly get back to scoring runs at the top.
The likes of Heather Knight and Marizanne Kapp at 4 and 5 add experience to the middle order and Phoebe Litchfield at 3 makes for the perfect number 3 batter. The middle order looks solid on paper at least.
Litchfield has delivered on the ground as well scoring 68 off 43 in a losing cause and 54 off 28 against Sixers in their opening game. She’s a key batter to watch out for in this side.
While Samantha Bates hasn’t found a lot of wickets, she will be a crucial figure in the bowling attack that is led by skipper Heather Knight and Marizanne Kapp.

The weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 17 degrees Celsius in Melbourne on the match day. The pitch is a balanced one and offers good help for batting. We reckon the pitch will stay good for batting throughout the match. Bowlers need to execute well to stay in the contest on this surface.
Junction Oval in Melbourne will be the venue for this clash. The average 1st innings score here in Women's domestic T20Is is 152 runs. A match-winning score should be something over 170-175 runs considering the pitch conditions and the batting strength of both teams.
Teams batting first have won all the 3 matches at this venue so far. And though two of these matches have been close encounters, considering the batting form of both teams, we reckon chasing will not be on their minds. Having runs on the board will be an advantage in this game.
These are two equally-matched teams as far as squad strength goes. However, speaking of the current form, the hosts are struggling to build partnerships in the middle order and will be under pressure as they take on SYT once again. The visitors have promising batters in the top and middle order and are slightly ahead of Melbourne Renegades.
As a result, SYT Women will start as favorites in our match prediction.
