Nigeria lock horns against Uganda in the sixth match of the Africa Continental T20 Cup 2024 on Friday, 6th December. The match is slated to be played at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium, Kigali City in Rwanda and the scheduled start time is 4:45 PM IST.
Nigeria are coming off a 29-run win over Botswana in their last match, while Uganda are coming off a huge 112-run victory over Rwanda in a rain-curtailed clash in their last outing. With two wins each, Uganda currently top the points table with four points, while Nigeria stand second with the same number of points. Two unbeaten teams clashing for the top spot, a win for either side will solidify their position.
When it comes to the head-to-head record, Uganda and Nigeria have clashed six times in T20I matches to date, with Uganda winning all of them. Out of these six wins, three came while batting first and three while bowling first. In their last head-to-head match, Uganda defeated Nigeria by nine wickets.
Nigeria have been impressive in the tournament with both bat and ball. In their first match, they defeated Rwanda by six wickets in a rain-affected game, chasing down 92 runs in 12 overs. In their last match against Botswana, Nigeria batted first and scored 185/5. They got off to a good start, scoring 28 runs in 3.5 overs for the first wicket before a miscommunication between Sulaimon Runsewe (11 runs), the wicket-keeper batter, and his partner led to a run-out.
Selim Salau (35 runs) and Olayinka Olaleye (45 runs) added 37 runs for the second wicket, before Salau got out. Olaleye continued his good form but missed out on a well-deserved fifty by five runs. In the final 10 overs, Nigeria captain Sylvester Okpe (45 runs) and Isaac Danladi (28 runs) powered their score past the 180-run mark.
Defending the total, their new-ball bowlers struggled in the powerplay overs, leaking runs. However, they pulled the game back in the middle overs, making it difficult for Botswana to score boundaries. Peter Aho, with match figures of 3/32, was the top wicket-taker, and Isaac Danladi also chipped in with two wickets.
For their game against Uganda, spinners will be key. Uganda's batters have struggled in the middle overs in both games. If Nigeria can get early wickets and apply pressure on Uganda's top order, they can expose their middle order, where most batters, except Alpesh Ramjani, haven't performed well.

Uganda have dominated both games they've played in the African Continental T20 Cup so far. They defeated Botswana by 78 runs in their first match, scoring 164/8 and bowling out their opponents for 86 runs. In their last outing, they absolutely demolished Rwanda.
Batting first, Uganda scored 192/7, thanks to a blistering half-century from opener Robinson Obuya, who scored 83 runs off 44 balls. The 23-year-old right-handed batter smashed 6 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 188.63. Shrideep Magela and Raghav Dhawan contributed 11 runs each. Riazat Ali Shah scored 27 runs in 19 balls, hitting five fours, and Dinesh Nakrani scored 21 runs in 15 balls, hitting two sixes. These players added useful runs in the end overs, powering Uganda past the 190-run mark.
They then bowled out their opponents for 83 runs in 16.1 overs. Dinesh Nakrani was the top performer with figures of 4/16, including two maiden overs. Henry Ssenyondo, the left-arm spinner, was once again impressive with the ball, finishing with figures of 3/13 at an economy of 4.33.
They are likely to continue their strategy of batting first and defending totals against Nigeria. In this game, Uganda's captain, who has scored 176 runs in six matches against Nigeria, will be the batter to watch. Henry Ssenyondo, who has picked up 10 wickets in six matches, is the bowler to focus on.

The weather at Gahanga International Cricket Stadium, Rwanda on Friday is expected to be around 22°C to 24°C and Sunny periods with a light rain in the afternoon, with 75% precipitation and 77% humidity. The match could be affected by rain, which could result in delays during the match hours
The surface at Kigali is a balanced track that favors both the batters and bowlers in general, but scores have gone in the last two matches where the first innings scores were 185 and 192 runs. Spinners have done most of the damage where the 7-15 overs phase has been tough for the batters and it is also the phase where teams have lost most wickets. Teams chasing have struggled to chase down totals in the ongoing tournament.
In the 98 T20 matches played at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium, Rwanda teams batting first won 42 matches, while the teams batting second won 49 matches. But in the current tournament teams batting first won three of the four matches played. We predict the team that wins the toss will opt to bat first
Uganda with the kind of batting lineup they have and how disciplined their bowling lineup has been in recent times enter the contest as favourites and we back them to comfortably win this contest and remain unbeaten.
