Cricket’s fastest format is back to where it belongs- the Abu Dhabi T10- and the attention of cricket enthusiasts has clearly shifted to the UAE.
A few new leagues may have popped up on the T10 circuit including the US Masters T10, the Zim Afro T10 and The 6ixty from the Caribbean, but the Abu Dhabi T10 league still remains the ultimate competition in this circuit mainly for the kind of globe-trotting superstars it brings together such as the likes of Kieron Pollard, Dre Russ, Mohammed Aamir, Sunil Narine, Nicky Pooran.
And what’s more, the latest edition will see 8 strong teams slug it out over the next 12 days for the coveted T10 honours, with the first match in particular shaping up to be a mouth-watering prospect. The two finalists from the last edition- Deccan Gladiators and New York Strikers- are facing off one more time in the Sheikh Zayed cricket stadium to kick off the latest instalment of the Abu Dhabi T10.
And we can’t wait to see who comes out trumps.
They don’t have to look too far behind for inspiration though: they ed a last ball win chasing down 110 in 10 overs during when they squared up against Gladiators in the league phase. Andre Fletcher, Eoin Morgan, Azam Khan, Wahab Riaz are some key names missing from that game, but the Strikers have got a fit and firing squad on paper with all bases covered.
Swashbuckling Afghan opener Gurbaz and Kusal Perera are all set to open the batting. Also featuring in the lineup are the important men from Caribbean who can win matches single-handedly when it’s their day: captain courageous Kieron Pollard, hard-hitting all-rounder Odean Smith, and Sunil Narine wily old spinner known for foxing opponents. They’ve got a good strong Asian contingent representing them in Asif Ali, Niroshan Dickwella and Mohammed Amir who often sends down bolts at the start of the innings. And they’ll be all pumped up for this repeat of the 6th season final.
It is a new day and another opportunity to put their dismal performance from last year’s final behind and start this tournament with a bang.Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Kusal Perera. Muhammad Waseem, Asif Ali, Odean Smith, Kieron Pollard (C), Sunil Narine, Akeal Hosein, Chamika Karunaratne, Mohd Amir, and Muhammad Jawadullah.

Deccan Gladiators stunned New York Strikers with a thumping 37-run win in the final last time to successfully defend the title, and they’ll be keen to dominate their opponents right from the word go.
The Gladiators have enough firepower in their squad, with the right mix of youth and experience, to go all the way and win three titles on the bounce.
And if they’re to do that, they will have to start the tournament strong with a dominating display over the Strikers. Some of their marquee players like Suresh Raina, David Wiese who smoked four sixes in a whirlwhind 18 ball 43* in the final are not going to be around for the opener and that's a concern. But Gladiators have got good replacements in the bench though.
Tom Kohler-Core and Nicky P will be looking to carry their momentum from the last edition into this, as they look to script history this time around to become the first team ever in the shortest format to a threepeat- a hattrick of title wins.
Trent Boult, the lightning fast left arm pacer from NZ, Luke Wood, the English left-arm quick, and Imad Wasim, the crafty all rounder from Pak, look all set to start in the XI.Tom Kohler-Core, Andre Fletcher, Nicholas Pooran(C/WK), Andre Russell, Fabian Allen, Imad Wasim, Nuwan Thushara, Luke Wood, Zahir Khan, Zahoor Khan and Trent Boult.

Historically, the pitch here at Abu Dhabi has been good for chasing with 6 out of ten teams winning the toss choosing to chase.
That being said, teams that have a good balance between ball and bat in their squad don’t mind putting a sizable total on the board and defending it.
Both teams look strong on paper and have several match-winners, but we think Deccan Gladiators have one thing that New York Strikers don't have. The two titles which they won back to back will give them the mental edge required to take out any opposition.
