Any contest between New Zealand and Australia is of interest to the wider cricket public and this two-match series is no different with the teams meeting in this format for the first time since before the pandemic in 2020!
New Zealand have been a force at home in Test cricket for a long time and they are targeting their fifth successive home Test victory in this game. But facing Australia often causes the Black Caps to drop down a level or two, as seen by their last three head to head Tests which were won by Australia by margins of 279 runs, 247 runs and 296 runs.
The first four days of this Test have been sold out for weeks and the spectators look set for a brilliant contest between two strong Test sides.

New Zealand come into this Test off the back of thrashing South Africa in their last two Test Matches. That said, they have just been beaten 3-0 in a T20I series by Australia so the Black Caps will welcome the return of red ball action!
Former skipper Kane Williamson comes into this game in brilliant form after hitting three centuries from his four innings against South Africa earlier this month. William O'Rourke, who made his Test debut in the 2nd Test, may find the going a little tougher in this fixture after finishing with nine wickets!
However, two bowlers who will not be on show are Kyle Jamieson who is out for the rest of the home summer and Neil Wagner who announced his international retirement on Monday.

Although Australia have a fine Test record over the last few years across the globe and an even better record against New Zealand, they have had their wings clipped a little with West Indies beating them at the Gabba by 8 runs in their last match in this format at the end of the last month!
This could be their first real Test as a David Warner-less Test side and it will be interesting to see how Steve Smith gets on at the top of the order against a strong New Zealand bowling attack on a seam bowler friendly surface.
With the ball themselves, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins come into this Test both at the top of their games.

Fine weather is forecast for the first four days in Wellington before rain looks likely throughout Monday. The temperature will be in the mid-high twenties across the opening four days of this Test.
Although this is a good batting pitch, with countless double centuries scored at the Basin Reserve, we can expect a green tinge to the surface in the first session. We are not expecting a huge amount of turn from the surface but there will be good pace and bounce.
The pitch generally holds up over the course of a Test Match in Wellington so we expect both captains to want to post a big score in the first innings of the match and pile on some scoreboard pressure. Whoever wins the toss we expect them to bat.
This could well be a very close match and may even rival the great Test between England and New Zealand at this venue 12 months ago when New Zealand came back from following-on to win by one run! We expect this game to go the distance but are backing Australia to win.
