This looks all set to be a cracking contest between the two sides who currently occupy the top places in the Cricket World Cup League 2!
And although it is USA who have a two point lead over Oman, the teams could be level on 20 points, with a four point gap to Canada in third place after this contest has been completed.
Oman have home advantage and have also had the better of USA in this format. For some that will be a surprise as USA made a good impression on home turn in the 2024 T20 World Cup but Oman are a real strong outfit themselves.
We are expecting a very close contest, certainly a closer one than we saw one week ago when Oman got home with seven wickets to spare!
Although Oman have been clocking up the victories over recent games, they came very close to falling flat and ending in defeat in their last game against Namibia on Sunday.
It was a very low-scoring affair, with the Namibians bowled out for 96 after an excellent bowling display from the hosts but their batting will need to go up a level for this game or else they will be in real trouble.
Against Namibia, Oman hobbled over the line with only two wickets remaining and they will be looking to the top order of Aamir Kaleem, captain Jatinder Singh and Hammad Mirza to produce the goods in this game.
With the ball, it was Shakeel Ahmed who caught the eye - taking 4/25 and sending down two maidens across his nine overs!
Aamir Kaleem, Jatinder Singh (c), Hammad Mirza, Wasim Ali, Vinayak Shukla (wk), Sufyan Mehmood, Hashir Dafedar, Shakeel Ahmed, Jay Odedra, Siddharth Bukkapatnam, Samay Shirvastav
Although Oman failed to convince in their last game against Namibia, USA did not have the same problem, defeating the south Africans by 70 runs on Friday in Al Amerat.
Controlled batting from opener Andries Gous and captain Monank Patel at number three set the platform for the side and although the upper middle-order failed there were plenty of lower order runs to help out.
Those runs could be crucial once again in this match as every run will count in what is likely to be a close contest!
With the ball, there are few pace bowlers at this level who can rival Saurabh Netravalkar for accuracy and ability to move the ball at pace. He comes into this game after taking 3/41 on Friday.
Smit Patel, Andries Gous, Monank Patel (c), Saiteja Mukkamalla, Milind Kumar, Aaron Jones, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Harmeet Singh, Jasdeep Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Saurabh Netravalkar
The forecast is for a beautiful day across Oman on Wednesday with the temperature above 25 degrees from start to finish. Expect sunny skies throughout with no chance of rain.
Although the Namibia versus Oman clash on Sunday made the pitch look like a bowler's paradise, we expect the batters to dominate this time. A par score will be in the region of 280 on this surface.
This will be an interesting toss as USA have won their recent games by batting first whereas Oman have had more joy when chasing. We predict that both teams will choose to bat first if they win the toss.
Both teams are in excellent form and Oman have the dual advantage of having won the last head to head as well as being the hosts. However, we think USA will want revenge and we are predicting victory for them on Wednesday.
We are backing USA to win!
