Team India was humiliated by South Africa in the first match of the two-Test series, losing by an innings and 32 runs in just three days. The Proteas were clinical and dominating and have taken an unassailable 1-0 lead. They are very strong opponents at home, and given how listless India looked in the first Test, the home side will start as clear favorites for this game.

South Africa couldn’t have asked for a perfect game to start their series. On a spicy wicket at Centurion, they first bowled India out for 245, then went on to take a massive 163-run lead. In response, the visitors were shot out for just 131.
Dean Elgar, playing his last Test series, displayed his class with a match-winning knock of 185. Debutant David Bedingham (56) and all-rounder Marco Jansen (84), helped the home side pile up a huge total of 408 on the board.
Captain Temba Bavuma suffered an injury during the match and couldn’t bat. He has been ruled out of the final Test, and his absence, Aiden Markram (317 runs in the last 5 matches at an average of 39.63) will be relied upon to deliver a strong performance.
South Africa’s bowling was dangerous as ever, even without the likes of Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje. Kagiso Rabada was the wrecker-in-chief once again, taking 7 wickets in the game while giving away just 91 runs. Newbie Nandre Burger was impressive as well and claimed 7 wickets in his debut Test, while Jansen showed how difficult he can be to tackle on these wickets.
Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has also been ruled out of the second Test because of a pelvic inflammation. Lungi Ngidi will take his place if he is fit, and if not, Wiaan Mulder will likely come in.
This fast bowling attack looks dangerous and will create more issues for India in the next Test.

Team India would like to forget their performance in the first Test in a hurry. Barring Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah, none of the others could make an impact. The bowlers looked listless and most of the batters had no answers to playing on such a track.
Rohit Sharma, in particular, looked completely out of sorts and was done in by Rabada in both the innings. What’s more worrisome is that India’s young batters showed no real patience to survive. The likes of Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer really need to step up their game or India will be looking at another crushing defeat.
KL Rahul was India’s top-scorer in the first Test with a classy 101 in the first innings, followed by Kohli’s 76 in the second innings. We think these should be among the runs in the second Test too.
Bumrah was the only bowler that stood out, taking 4-69. The pair of less-experienced bowlers, Shardul Thakur in his 11th Test match and debutant Prasidh Krishna, leaked 194 runs while capturing 2 wickets in a span of 39 overs. Mohammed Siraj too blew hot and cold.
India have added uncapped fast bowler Avesh Khan to their squad for the second Test as a replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami. Avesh is already in South Africa and took 5-54 in the second four-day Test against South Africa A at Benoni. Avesh is likely to replace Prasidh in the playing eleven.

Centurion's SuperSport Park is expected to offer a good amount of help for pace bowlers. However, once the ball gets older, batters who have seen off the tough phase will have runs on offer. Spinners won’t be as effective here, but they can create pressure by holding one end up.
The weather in Cape Town is expected to be bright and sunny throughout the Test.
The average score batting first at SuperSport Park is 327. The highest total achieved on the venue is 651 by South Africa against Australia in 2009. The highest run chase achieved on this ground is 334-6 by Australia against South Africa in 2006.
Cape Town is usually a good bowling-friendly venue and the toss-winning captain might be tempted to bowl first and restrict the opposition for a low score.
India have won a Test in four of their last five tours of South Africa, despite not winning a single series. Will they be able to win another one? Looking at their performance in the first Test, that seems unlikely. Their batters might still step up, but their insipid bowling unit is likely to let them down again. South Africa, despite not being at full strength, are looking really strong in these conditions and should be able to continue their dominance.
Back South Africa to win this match and clinch the series 2-0.
