Sri Lanka U-19 will square off against Nepal U-19 in the second match of the Asian Cricket Council U-19 Asia Cup 2024 at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium. The Lankan Lions are coming off a mixed bag of results in Youth ODIs, having won three of their last five outings. Meanwhile, Nepal U-19, who have seen a rise in youth cricket, particularly in the T20I format, haven't had much success in the 50-over format, winning only one of their last five games.

Both teams will be eager to start the tournament with a win. The young players will have to prove themselves under tough batting conditions and severe heat at a venue that has produced many cricketing superstars. Sri Lanka has a relatively settled batting lineup and a well-balanced squad. In contrast, Nepal, known for producing unorthodox and mystery spinners, has struggled to develop batters who can play the longer formats and exhibit patience. Ultimately, it will be a battle between Sri Lanka's batting and Nepal's bowling lineup.

Akash Tripathi bats at number three and has scored 136 runs in seven matches. Rohan Biswakarma, with 191 runs in six matches, can score big runs in this contest and is known to play spinners well in the middle overs.

Naren Saud, one of the team's key all-rounders, is coming on the back of scoring 57 runs and picking up 12 wickets in the national U-19 ODI cup. Aparajit Paudel, with 19 wickets, and the team's captain, Hemanth Dhami, with 12 wickets, are the players to watch out for. The pitch at Sharjah is a balanced track where it offers assistance to both the batters & bowlers, in most ODI games the pitch will be dry and hard where seamers come are highly impactful and the uneven bounce sometimes can be the undoing of the batters. Wrist spinners will be highly impactful at this venue and the average 1st innings score is around the 220-230 run mark.

Toss: To Bat

Teams batting first have won 54.4% of the matches at this venue in ODI's. In YODI's out of the 11 matches the team batting first won eight matches, as it is a day game the pitch tends to slow down as the game progresses and we predict the team that wins the toss will opt to bat first.

With their experience and recent matches against world-class teams, the odds favor SL U-19 to win this game. They have a significantly better batting and bowling lineup compared to Nepal and are on an unbeaten run against them.
