Seattle Orcas Preview

Seattle Orcas lost their first match of the season to MI New York, but they came up with a clinical performance against Los Angeles Knight Riders in the next to put on board their first win of this season.

Ryan Rickleton, the swashbuckling South African batsman, brought up a century including 9 boundaries and 5 sixes to give his team a much-needed morale-boosting win after a dismal performance in the opener. Quinton de Kock chipped in with fifty, but he took his time and scored at just a fraction more than run a ball. With the ball, Nandre Burger has not hit his stride yet.

A costly 24-run over in the death, in which David Miller took him to the cleaners, would have further dented his confidence. Pakistani pacer Zaman Khan has been in good form in both matches, and bowled superbly to return with economical figures of the day.

Harmeet Singh also contributed a couple of wickets, while Imad Wasim and Cameron Gannon also applied pressure early on and through the middle overs.

Washington Freedom Preview

Washington Freedom are the only unbeaten side of the competition. They were not looking good at the innings break of the second game their chase of 204 against Texas Super Kings but their exhilarating opening pair of Travis Head and Steven Smith came all guns blazing and dashed off to 62 runs off 4 overs before relentless showers made sure no further play was possible.

Smith was out of favour for the recently concluded T20 World Cup, but here he is, with scores like 46 off 28 and 26 off 13, showing everyone he can light it up in a format which many think he’s not a lock for.

The strength of this team is in their squad depth, which includes all kinds of players you can think of: a swashbuckling opener, a run machine in Head, a T20 maverick in Maxwell, a useful spinner that could open the attack in Akeal Hosein, a tall and lanky bowler in Jansen, a crafty pacer in Ferguson and a workhorse in Saurabh Netravalkar.

Surprisingly, the Indian origin player representing the USA, has been the pick of bowlers. With 5 wickets from 2 games, he has outdone bowlers like Lockie Ferguson, Marco Jansen etc.
