Surrey and Glamorgan clash in the 18th match of the Metro-Bank One-Day Cup at the Kennington Oval. While Glamorgan are riding high on a season-opening victory, Surrey will be desperate to turn their fortunes around after a disappointing start. The last time Surrey beat Glamorgan in the One-Day Cup was back in 2018, so they have a lot to play for.

Surrey will look to bounce back from their opening game defeat against Yorkshire. The match was reduced to 33 overs-a-side due to rain and Surrey, chasing a target of 241, could only put up 222-9.

Ryan Patel and Ben Foakes shone with the bat for Surrey, scoring 40 each. Cameron Steel made a solid 37 off 34 balls.

Patel and Foakes were the team’s best batters last year, scoring 330 and 206 runs, respectively. The team’s fortunes this season will depend a lot on how these two perform. 

Ben Geddes is another batter you can count on. He had scored 209 runs last season at an average of almost 30 and a strike rate of 101.

Surrey’s bowlers did a pretty good job in the previous match, with almost everyone amongst the wickets. Cameron Steel was expensive but picked up two crucial wickets. He is a regular wicket-taker and you can back him to make an impact here. 

Conor McKerr (9 wickets at an economy of 6.44 last season) is also worth watching out for.

Glamorgan Preview

Glamorgan opened their campaign with a convincing 27-run victory over Gloucestershire at Cardiff. A rain-reduced match saw Glamorgan set a target of 187 runs in 33 overs. Their bowlers then dominated, dismantling Gloucestershire's batting lineup for a paltry 160.

All-rounder Ben Kellaway was the star for Glamorgan in this match, smashing an unbeaten 65 off just 60 balls. He was also good with the ball, taking 1-32 in 4 overs.

Captain Kiran Carlson also played a steady hand with a knock of 32 runs.

Carlson had a fantastic season in 2023, where he amassed 332 runs in 7 innings at an average of 47.42 and a strike rate of 121.

We are also backing opener Eddie Byrom to do well in this game. He was the team’s leading run-getter last year, with 352 runs in 7 innings at an average of 50 and a strike rate of 88.

Glamorgan have further solid batting options in Billy Root and William Smale.

Daniel Douthwaite and Andy Gorvin were the standout bowlers for Glamorgan in the opening game, taking 7 wickets between them. With these two and Kellaway in the bowling unit, Glamorgan are likely to put pressure on any batting line-up.

Weather Conditions

The Oval pitch is generally good for batting, as we saw in the first match of the One-Day Cup played here this season. Fast bowlers can exploit the new ball, while spinners will find some turn in the middle overs. Spinners will need to be tight to be effective. Batters, however, will have a great time here.

The weather in London during the game will be sunny, with light winds. There is no threat of rain and we should hence get a full game.
