Southern Western District take on Northern Cape at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn in their last game of the season. They have lost two of their 3 matches at this venue so far while one ended without a result.
They are coming into this match on the back of two consecutive losses where their batting performances were utterly disappointing. Northern Cape, on the other hand, except for a hiccup against Border, have performed quite well overall.
Northern Cape scored 274 runs batting first against Emerging Players where Grant Thomson shined with the bat scoring unbeaten 90 off 61 balls at number 5.
While they failed to defend the total, the Ernest Kemm-led side was quick enough to bounce back from their batting collapse against Border as they secured a 6-wicket win against the Rhinos chasing a 220-run target in the next match.
The visitors pack a strong overall side with in-form bowlers and reliable batters in the middle-order. The hosts, who’ve been struggling to reach the 200-run mark in their recent outings, have a tough battle ahead.

Southern Western District find themselves at number 4, three places ahead of Northern Cape in the points table with just 2 wins from 6 matches.
Their win over Mpumalanga Rhinos was the only convincing one. The last win that came against Border was by the barest of margins. SWD won by 1 run defending a total of 234 runs at Buffalo Park in East London.
However, since then, the batting has been underwhelming and SWD have lost two back-to-back matches. They suffered a batting collapse against Border as well.
But the likes of Jhedli van Briesies and Kelly Smuts along with the opener Hanno Kotzze helped rebuild the innings and take the total to 234 runs while batting first.
SWD made a few changes to their batting lineup sending Mathew Christensen to open the inning alongside Ruan Terblanche while wicket-keeper bat Briesies came in to bat at number 3.
The biggest issue is the skipper Jean du Plessis failing to convert his good starts. Changing the order of these batters won’t make much of a difference. They need to find the rhythm and start playing a bigger inning if SWD is to score a competitive total.
Marcello Piedt, Thomas Kaber, and Kelly Smuts are key bowlers in this lineup to watch out for. These three have been quite consistent and impactful with the ball.

Northern Cape kicked off their CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge Divison Two campaign with a win against Limpopo in their opening match.
It was a low-scoring affair as Cape successfully defended a 230-run total at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. However, it took 3 consecutive losses before Northern Cape would taste success for the second time.
It was in their last match against Mpumalanga Rhinos at Uplands College that Northern Cape secured their second win of the season. Prior to that, they had bowled out Border for 145 runs bowling first at the Diamond Oval.
But the batters failed to chase down such a small target as Northern Cape lost the match by 6 runs. Hence, the successful run-chase against Mpumalanga Rhinos was significant from the point of view of Northern Cape’s batting form.
First, it was skipper Ernest Kemm and number 3 batsman Jason Oakes who scored a 70-run partnership for the 2nd wicket and then Grant Thomson along with Oakes added another 124 runs for the 3rd wicket.
This was the second fifty in 3 matches for both Jason Oakes and Grand Thomson. The two had scored a fifty each against South Africa Emerging Players taking the team to 274-run total batting first.
In the bowling department, batting all-rounder and skipper Enrest Kemm is in great touch and will be a key wicket-taker. Tshepo Ntuli is another key bowler in the spin department while Basheeru-Deen Walters will lead the pace attack.
Ernest Kemm (c), Juan Landsberg, Jason Oakes, Christoffel Klijnhans, Grant Thomson, Victor Bafana Mahlangu, Hanu Viljoen (wk), Johan van Dyk, Tshepo Ntuli, Basheeru-Deen Walters, Zakhele Qwabe, Emmanuel Motswiri

It is a good batting wicket where Jean du Plessis scored a hundred at number 4 against the Knights. However, the pitch also helped the bowlers a great deal in that game, and the next one where SWD were bowled out for 146 runs. It will be a great contest between the bat and the ball with the bowlers having a slight edge. The weather forecast is for scattered thunderstorms on the match day with a high of 24 degrees Celsius in Oudtshoorn.
Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn is the venue for this match. It is home to Southern Western District where the hosts have lost two matches so far this season. Considering the previous matches on this venue and the weather forecast for this game, we reckon a 270+ 1st innings score will be a highly competitive total.
There have been some mixed results on this ground though it seems like a good batting venue with a lot of runs on offer. Nevertheless, bowlers have had the upper hand so far and it was a few heroic performances that helped the teams to a big total here. We reckon bowling first can allow the team to gain the upper hand soon and possibly restrict the batting team to a below-par score.
Though SWD are three places ahead of Northern Cape in the points table, their current form doesn’t reflect well on their chances of winning this game. They’ve been struggling to even cross the 200-run mark whether batting first or second. The visitors are coming here with a win in their recent match and a strong bowling attack. Northern Cape have a slight edge in of current form and squad strength and will start as favorites in our match prediction.
