Another triple header day beckons, and the first match of Day 3 seems to be an exciting battle with Team Abu Dhabi pitted against Northern Warriors.
Both teams have a lot riding on this match. For Team AD, it is a fresh opportunity to right the wrong and get their campaign back on track after their excruciating 4 run defeat. On the other hand, The Northern Warriors will step in the field tomorrow hoping they’ll be able to get a kick on after securing a thriller on the opening night.
The fastest format of the game is ruthless and comes quite hard at you when you’re down on your haunches and don’t have enough time to get back up. Therefore, it is important for both teams to get their team combination right, work out their matchups, lay out clear plans, play with intent and execute these plans with precision. That’s the only way to work out a wee bit of momentum going for you, as they slowly inch towards the middle stages of the tournament.

The opening duel between Team Abu Dhabi and Chennai Braves went right down to the wire with Chennai Braves coming out on top.
Team Abu Dhabi’s chase was very much on course before Alex Hales threw his wicket away in search of quick runs. UAE player Asif Khan couldn’t put bat to ball and succumbed to retired Protean spinner Imran Tahir, with the team needing 61 runs to win from 24 balls. Hard hitting South African duo of Leus du Plooy and Colin Ingram came together in the middle to put up a quickfire 50 run partnership and smacked a flurry of boundaries taking them within striking distance. But it wasn’t enough, and they lost by 4 runs.
Tymal Mills injury was a big moment in the context of the match , with James Fuller leaking 16 runs in 4 balls after coming in to complete the over. Left arm seamer Dilshan Madhushanka, coming in hot on the back of some brilliant performances for Sri Lanka in the recently concluded world cup, may walk straight into the XI and take Mills’ spot in the team. The first match didn’t go their way, but the team will be desperate get their first win and make a mark.

Having worked up a wee bit of a momentum after their slender 9 run victory over the Samp Army, Northern Warriors will fancy their chances of a win against a team who they have had the better of in the recent past. Team NW currently edge the head-to-head record with 3 wins to Team AD’s 2 wins, and their confidence will be up after having clinched the opener.
Colin Munro’s raced to 36 off just 15 balls compiling 2 boundaries and 3 maximums, and stitched up a wonderful partnership with fellow Kiwi Jimmy Neesham. They more than made up for the timid start by the top order, who managed to muster up round about 50 in inside 6 overs.
Their bowling department was on song with four bowlers amongst the wicket’s column and only Tabraiz Shamsi was unable to make any breakthrough that day. It wasn’t a walkover and they were clearly pushed especially with Mooen Ali going bonkers towards the end of the second innings. To be able to keep their composure and execute their skills 100% when they were under pressure is a clear hallmark of their win and they’ll look to repeat that in the games going forward.

Of all the 5 matches completed so far, 4 teams winning the toss asked their opposition to bat first. Chasing is always a safe bet here mainly because it gives them enough time to assess the surface, figure out what they need to do to restrict the opposition to a manageable total, and come up with a clear plan to chase that down when batting.
Four teams elected to field first after winning the toss, except for the one occasion in which Deccan Gladiators once again confirmed their intent about setting a total. Don’t be surprised if the team winning the toss chooses to bowl first.
Both the teams stuttered in their batting early on but quickly recovered to get to a winning position. Northern Warriors did manage to get over the line while Team AD fell away in the last hurdle. There’s no clear winner in this contest however we think Northern Warriors might have an edge over Team AD.
We are backing Northern Warriors as the winners of this contest.
