Bangladesh head to Sharjah for a two-match T20I series against UAE, starting Saturday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The home side carries strong momentum into the series and will back themselves to put in a good performance. That said, they've never beaten Bangladesh before, and with far more experience in T20 cricket, the visitors start this short tour with the upper hand.

UAE have been making fast progress in the T20I scene. Their most recent success came at the Gulf T20I Championship 2024/25 in Dubai, which featured Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar. They won four out of five matches and took the title after a tight two-wicket win over Kuwait in the final.
Muhammad Waseem is back at the helm for the two-match series against Bangladesh and is expected to be the driving force at the top. He was in excellent form in the Gulf Championship, scoring 221 runs in six innings with an average of 44.20 and a strike rate of 148.32.
Middle-order player Asif Khan and wicket-keeper batter Rahul Chopra are two others who’ve been among the runs lately and could add solid contributions.
With the ball, Muhammad Jawadullah is expected to lead the pace department. He’ll have from left-arm spinner Simranjeet Singh, who has been reliable in the middle overs. Dhruv Parashar, known for his steady lines and lengths, is another one who could be effective on this pitch.
Muhammad Waseem has scored 33 runs in 2 matches against Bangladesh. The explosive batter had a strong 2024, scoring 909 runs in 26 matches at an average close to 40. His record at Sharjah is also respectable, with 84 runs in 3 matches at an average of 28.

Bangladesh head into this series looking to turn around their fortunes in white-ball cricket, which haven’t been great lately. They exited the T20 World Cup 2024 without a single win and followed that up with a 0-3 drubbing in India. However, they bounced back by sweeping West Indies 3-0 at home at the end of last year and will want to build on that.
Litton Das leads a well-rounded squad with plenty of promise. Along with him, Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan are expected to be the main run-getters at the top. Jaker Ali, who finished as the highest scorer against West Indies, is another name to keep an eye on. He’s shown he can hold the innings together and also shift gears when needed.
With the ball, Mustafizur Rahman will be central to Bangladesh’s plans. The surface here should work well for the experienced seamer’s variations, especially the cutters and slower balls he uses so well at the death. Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Hasan Mahmud, with their pace and bounce, will keep the pressure on and are strong bets for wickets.
Rishad Hossain brings the leg-spin threat in the middle overs. He’s got a knack for breakthroughs when the opposition starts to settle in.
Tanzid Hasan, who averages 21.56 in his T20I career with 345 runs in 18 matches, will be looking to carry his impressive Bangladesh Premier League form (over 400 runs) into the series against UAE. We expect him to start strongly and score over 20 runs.

The pitch at Sharjah Cricket Stadium gives both bowlers and batters something to work with. It usually plays true and offers a solid surface for batting. That said, seamers can expect good bounce early on. Spinners will also find something to work with, but once the dew settles in, it could make things tougher for them.
As for the weather, Sharjah will be hot and dry during the match, and there’s no rain expected to disrupt play.

High TurnThe average first-innings score at Sharjah Cricket Stadium stands at 151. The highest total recorded at the venue is Afghanistan’s 215 for 6 against Zimbabwe back in 2016. If Bangladesh get to bat first, they’ll likely target something in the 175 to 185 range. For UAE, batting first might mean aiming for a total around 160, which could give them a fighting chance.
We predict the home team UAE to win the coin toss in the first T20I match.
23 of the 38 T20Is played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium have been won by the side batting first, clearly indicating that batting first is more beneficial on this ground.
UAE have lost all three of their previous T20Is against Bangladesh, and getting that first win won’t come easy. Bangladesh are stronger in nearly every department. Their pace attack, in particular, could cause serious trouble for UAE, who rarely face bowlers of this standard. If the home team are to pull off an upset, it will take an outstanding effort from their bowlers to dismiss Bangladesh for a low total. Otherwise, Bangladesh go into this match as the clear favorites.
Bangladesh are clear favorites to win the first game.
