The North American Derby will kick off the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The last warm-up match here was abandoned with the toss due to rain.
The weather forecast is for scattered showers on the match day but by 7:30 PM local time, the rains are likely to stop and we can expect a full, 20-over-per-side match with some clouds hanging around.
The USA will be confident after their success in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh. Not only have they beaten a strong Bangladesh side but also boast of a 5-2 record against Canada in T20Is.
Canada were on top of their game against Nepal in the warm-up matches but have been on the losing side for their last 5 T20Is, all of which were played against the USA.
There are some vulnerabilities in the USA batting lineup as were exploited by Bangladesh in the 3rd T20I. And Canada, with some in-form bowlers like Dillon Heyliger and Jeremy Gordon will be looking to attack the home team.

In their last match against Canada, the USA successfully chased down 169 runs with 4 wickets in hand. The hosts were also successful in chasing 154 runs against Bangladesh in the recent T20I series.
There are many all-rounders in this squad and that adds to the batting depth of this lineup. Corey Anderson hasn’t looked threatening lately but will be a key player in the middle or lower middle order for the USA.
Harmeet Singh, who had played for India U19 in the past and a few IPL franchises is also a key all-rounder in this side who can be in the finisher’s role. Skipper Monank Patel is likely to open the innings alongside Steven Taylor.
These two are crucial to the USA’s batting performance. Taylor has a really impressive strike rate and will be one to watch out for. These two delivered some good starts against Bangladesh and will be expected to continue their form in this game as well.
Nitish Kumar has a great record against Canada. He scored 64 off 38 in April this year as he opened the innings for the USA while chasing 169. In the same match, Corey Anderson had scored 55 off 48 at number 5 while most of the others failed to get going.
Saurabh Netravalkar and Ali Khan will be the key bowlers to watch out for. Khan has good experience playing in the L and was recently the hero for the USA as they beat Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I. Shadley van Schalkwyk and Jasdeep Singh are among other bowlers who can deliver a breakthrough when needed.
Andries Gous has scored over 21.5 runs in two of his last three innings. He is one of the most experienced batters for USA and given his record at Dallas and recent form, we back Gous to come good and score over 21.5 runs in today's match.
Steven Taylor, Monank Patel (c & wk), Andries Gous, Aaron Jones, Nitish Kumar, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Ali Khan, Jasdeep Singh, Saurabh Netravalkar

Canada were off to a winning start in the warm-up matches as they defeated Nepal by 63 runs. They would be happy with this performance though they couldn’t get to play Netherlands in the second warm-up game due to rain.
They would have liked another warm-up match to have their other key batters find their rhythm before this match. Navneet Dhaliwal and Aaron Johnson are key players in the top order who need to deliver a big start.
Though Canada lost their first wicket pretty early in the game against Nepal, Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton built a strong partnership for the 2nd wicket. Kirton’s fifty helped Canada on their way to a 180+ total.
Pargat Singh and Shreyas Movva need to step up and start delivering in the lower middle order. They will be crucial for a big finish. Canada found another finisher in Ravinderpal Singh in the lower order who scored a fiery 41 off 17 balls against Nepal.
Saad Bin Zafar, a bowling all-rounder and skipper of this team, is also quite handy with the bat. Overall, there are many options in the batting department but what they need is reliable batters are key positions.
Dillon Heyliger will be leading this bowling attack. Along with Heyliger, Kalim Sana and Jeremy Gordon are other key wicket-takers to watch out for. Sana and Gordon weren’t part of the XI that played the USA in April this year.
Aaron Johnson, Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Pargat Singh, R Pathan, Shreyas Movva (wk), Saad Bin Zafar (c), Ravinderpal Singh, Dillon Heyliger, Jeremy Gordon, Kaleem Sana

It is a balanced wicket where both batters and bowlers will find great deal of help. There is enough for the batters if they can be patient enough to get settled before they can start timing the ball well. There are scattered showers predicted on the match day but at the time of the match, it is likely to be just cloudy with a high of 29 degrees Celsius in Dallas.

Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas will be hosting the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 where USA will take on Canada in the Group A match. There haven’t been any international matches here so far. In domestic matches, however, the average 1st innings score here is 166 runs. For a match-winning total, we reckon the team batting first should be aiming for 180+ runs.
The pitch at Grand Prairie in Dallas is a balanced track and the average total aggregate score in the last three matches played at this venue is 307 runs. Expect an average scoring game and we predict the total aggregate score to be over 298.5 runs.
Considering the weather conditions here, we reckon batting first will be an advantage in this match. Both teams have quality bowling attack that can defend a total and the skippers will prefer to bat first and have runs on the board.
USA has the upper hand against Canada given their recent head-to-head encounters and the overall squad strength coupled with home conditions. It can be a close encounter between these two teams but the USA will start with a slight edge in our match prediction.
