It is the 9th game in the One-Day Challenge Division One 2023. The Warriors will look for their first win of the season as they take on the Dolphins. Both the teams saw their previous games being washed away by rain. There was no play for the Warriors against the Western Province while the Dolphins had done well with the bat against the Lions when rain halted play.

The Warriors haven’t had any match practice, and this will technically be the first game for the team. Their players may be a bit rusty, and this will be a massive challenge against a strong side. The Dolphins have the right mix of youth and experience and have already won a game.  It will be a close contest as both teams fight it out in the middle.

Warriors Preview

It was a rain washout for Diego Rosier’s side in their opening game against the Western Province. The side will look to win this game and move up on the points table. They face a formidable opponent in this game and Rosier would like to see a good show and gain confidence for the rest of the season.

The side will need a good start in this game from Jordan Hermann and George Van Heerden. They have strength in the middle order and shall expect runs in this game from Tristan Stubbs, Matthew Breetzke, and Diego Rosier. Liam Alder and Sinethemba Qeshile are good hitters, and they must score quick runs in the final overs.

On the bowling front, the side will need a good show from Sean Whitehead and Renaldo Meyer with the new ball, as the Dolphins have a strong batting line-up. Tristan Stubbs and Ziyaad Abrahams will have to keep the scoring rate under check. The side will expect a good show in the ing role from Liam Alder and Rosier.

Warriors Predicted Playing XI:

Diego Rosier (c), Sinethemba Qeshile (wk), Jordan Hermann, Matthew Breetzke, Tristan Stubbs, Ziyaad Abrahams, Renaldo Meyer, Liam Alder, George Van Heerden, Marco Jansen, Sean Whitehead

Dolphins Preview

Eathan Bosch's side had to share points with the Lions in the last game after rain stopped play. They did well in the game and would have fancied a win. Nonetheless, they must put this behind them and aim to do well in this contest and strengthen their position on the points table.

JJ Smuts played well in the last game, and he would like to deliver a positive start in this contest with Saral Erwee. In the middle order, the team will expect runs from Jason Smith. Khaya Zondo and Grant Roelofsen. Bradley Porteous is a good finisher, and he must do well here with Andile Phelukwayo in the lower middle order.

The side would like to see a good show with the new ball from Eathan Bosch and Okuhle Cele and put the Warriors on the back foot. Prenelan Subrayen and Andile Simelane will look to bowl tight spells in the middle overs. Smuts and Phehlukwayo add depth to this bowling attack.

Dolphins Predicted Playing XI:

Eathan Bosch (c), Sarel Erwee, JJ Smuts, Grant Roelofsen (wk), Khaya Zondo, Jason Smith, Bradley Porteous, Tshepang Dithole, Andile Simelane, Prenelan Subrayen, Okuhle Cele

Weather Conditions

It is expected to be a sunny day in Gqeberha with odd clouds. There have been spells of rain over the last few weeks and this would mean that the pitch would be slightly damp and on the slower side. The ball is expected to stop on the batsmen and a score of 270-280 runs would be a fighting total on this ground.

WAR vs DOL Pitch Report

St George's Park, Gqeberha is a small ground, and we have seen batsmen score runs here in the past. Batting is always a pleasure on this surface. Fast bowlers get some assistance from the surface, but spinners have struggled on this wicket in the past due to the small size of the ground.

Toss: To Bowl

There is always something for the fast bowlers on this surface and captains winning the toss have always preferred to bowl here and exploit the conditions. With overcast conditions expected the side winning the toss would want to bowl first on this surface and pick up early wickets.

The Warriors haven’t had the opportunity to get match practice. The batting line-up looks a bit weak as the side will miss some of its key players who are with the national side. They must bat well to win this game. Dolphins have an experienced batting line-up and depth in the bowling department, making them favorites in this contest.
