Worcestershire are keen to reclaim the top spot in Group A of the 2024 One-Day Cup after having witnessed a sizeable loss in the recent match. The loss to Northants by 130 runs has put the pressure on Worcestershire, who have dropped the second spot in group A behind Derbyshire – albeit due to just a two-point deficit. Incidentally, they will be facing a Kent outfit who are also on the back of a defeat, as they suffered a five-wicket loss against Middlesex. The game should concern the home team, who have suffered a string of losses at the hands of Kent in recent years.
Four of the last five meetings between the two teams have gone in favour of Kent with the most recent match ending in a-seven wicket victory.

Worcestershire appeared to be holding onto the 100% record before they went into the game against Northants. However, the big loss has also seen the team drop to 2nd place in Group A while coming under pressure from Somerset, who are level on points after four matches. The only consolation for Worcestershire will be that Derbyshire and Somerset have games in hand.
Gareth Roderick will be the crucial player for the hosts. After having already had two centuries in the campaign, the 32-year-old has picked up 270 runs at an average of 90 and a strike rate of 107. Jake Libby to hit the ton in the 2024 One-Day Cup matches but he has 212 runs from his four innings at an average of 78.51.
Worcestershire have not seen a lot of steady performances from bowlers until Jack Home. The 18-year-old has been a sensational arrival in the last two games with nine wickets. His 6/51 against Derbyshire was his first five-wicket haul in this competition. Despite the wickets, Home has conceded a decent chunk of runs and it will be an area where he can improve.

Kent remain outside the top three places after failing to grab a victory against Middlesex. This was always going to be a tough fight for Kent, as Middlesex had the upper hand in of momentum. Kent are still struggling to put together a strong batting performance, but they are just two points away from the top three.
Much of the onus to get the runs has fallen on Harry Finch, who is the team’s top scorer in 2024 with 138 runs from his four innings. Finch has come up with 40+ runs in two of his last three games including a half-century against Hampshire. Yet, the lack of consistent contribution from the top order has been a big problem for Kent. Opener Marcus O'Riordan did show signs of coming to form with a half-century against Middlesex.
Beyers Swanepoel had a disappointing outing against Middlesex but he remains the t top wicket-taker – alongside Matt Parkinson – with eight wickets. Parkinson had a relatively decent outing with 17 runs and two wickets against Middlesex. Yet, a wayward line saw him get thrashed around the park for a decent chunk of the game.

The New Road in Worcester played host to 4 matches in the 2023 One-Day Cup with average scores in the first innings at 218 runs. The average second innings score was 198. The numbers from the two matches this season stand at 315 and 177 respectively.
Last season, there was a significant advantage for teams batting second with three of the four teams ending up successful through this way. In the 2024 season, the verdict has been split up evenly with teams batting first and second getting one win each. The wicket is expected to get some swing early on.
Worcestershire are likely to make use of the home and jump back to winning ways. Kent have been very inconsistent with their form. Even though the team lost to a very good Middlesex team, Kent have not been consistent in the batting line-up. Worcestershire might be able to get a narrow victory to retain the bid for the top spot.
Our prediction is for Worcestershire to win
