Warwickshire’s bid to go top of Group B will meet some kind of resistance when they go up against Yorkshire at the Rugby School Ground in Rugby. Warwickshire have done exceedingly well to win five of the six group matches this season, but they had to share points in the rain-hit game against table leaders Glamorgan. A victory in this game would have put them top of Group B, but such an outcome might have to wait.

Yorkshire still have a great chance of finishing in the top three places and progressing into the next round. Just two points separate Yorkshire and Leicestershire, who are in the third spot with eight points. Even though Warwickshire have beaten Yorkshire in three of the last five meetings, they have failed to beat this opponent in the last two meetings. Warwickshire’s last success over Yorkshire was in 2018.

Birmingham Bears Preview

Warwickshire would have been looking at a very big chase against Glamorgan if not for the rain playing spoilsport. The game could have gone either way, but Warwickshire are likely to be delighted about taking a point from the game. It still keeps them in the hunt for the top two places with two games left. The remaining matches against Yorkshire and Notts could be quite tricky for the second-placed outfit.

Ed Barnard has been a big factor behind the success picked up by Warwickshire so far this season. The captain has come up with 347 runs from his five innings at an average of 115 along with a strike rate of 110. He has already managed two centuries so far in the 2024 One-Day Cup. Will Rhodes has not scored in the last two games, but he remains the second-top scorer in the squad with 193 runs.

Apart from contributing immensely with the bat, Barnard also stands as the leading wicket-taker in the squad with 13 from his six innings. Michael Booth and Oliver Hannon-Dalby come second with 10 wickets each from their five innings.

Birmingham Bears Predicted Playing XI:

Yorkshire Preview

Yorkshire still have a great chance of finishing in the top three places and reaching the next round of the 2024 One-Day Cup after having picked up six points so far this season. It is expected to be a tough battle with Leicestershire, Notts, and Gloucs fighting for the same third place.

Shan Masood and James Wharton have been responsible for the bulk of the runs scored by Yorkshire. Both have hit 230+ runs from their six innings and they have averaged more than 38 runs each. Even though both players are yet to hit a century, they share five half-centuries so far this season.

There has been a substantial contribution from the lower order in recent matches. Dom Bess has been particularly impressive with back-to-back half-centuries that have played a vital role in helping Yorkshire pick up a win from one of the last two games.

Ben Coad was not involved in the loss against Leicestershire, but he remains the top bowler in the squad with 12 wickets this season. George Hill has managed at least a wicket in his last five games.

Yorkshire Predicted Playing XI:

Finlay Bean, Harry Duke, Shan Masood (c), James Wharton, William Luxton, George Hill, Matthew Revis, Dom Bess, Dominic Leech, Benjamin Cliff, Dan Moriarty

WRW vs YOR Pitch Report

The Rugby School Ground is a venue that has witnessed just one game in the 2024 One-Day Cup series. This match ended up producing a match total of 600+ runs. There was no major edge in of batting first or second, but setting a high target looks achievable on this ground.

Toss: To Bat

The only recent statistics for the toss winner at the Rugby School Ground reveal a pitch which is suited towards setting a big score and trying to defend the same. Warwickshire’s recent match on this pitch saw them bat first and end up successful.

Warwickshire have a formidable batting line-up which is likely to help them once again post a big total. Yorkshire have done relatively well to average 220 runs per game this season, but they do not have the strength in the bowling department to trouble a team like Warwickshire.

Our prediction is for Warwickshire to win
