Brabourne Stadium is located in the southern part of Mumbai, India and was built in 1937 in the British Bombay era. It was named in honor of Lord Brabourne, the then Governor of Bombay and is counted amongst one of the most historic cricket venues in the country. Currently, the ground is owned by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) and has hosted both men’s and women’s cricket matches.
After being established as Mumbai’s first permanent sporting venue, Brabourne Stadium hosted test matches (1948 - 1972) and was also the venue for Bombay Pentangular matches (1937 - 1946). However, due to the construction of Wankhede Stadium in 1974, the international fixtures being scheduled at Brabourne saw a decline. Interestingly, it witnessed a resurgence after hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in 2006 followed by a test match in 2009 after a 36-year hiatus. Notably, the finals of the 2013 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup were also held at the stadium where the Australian side emerged victorious against the West Indies.
In the Women’s Premier League, Brabourne Stadium will be a major venue and will also host the final match on March 15, 2025.

Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai Pitch Report
The pitch at the Brabourne Stadium is a balanced one and helps both batters and bowlers alike. It provides a consistent bounce as well as a good pace which makes it a batting-friendly venue. The presence of short boundaries and quick outfield tends to escalate the runs further resulting in high-scoring encounters.
It can be noted that, as the match advances, spinners gradually come into play. This is particularly because the surface starts offering slow turns, especially during the latter stages of the game. Hence, spinners become a crucial factor in the middle and death overs. Moreover, even spin bowlers are often able to find added assistance early on with a new ball.
Another major element to be considered when assessing the pitch at Brabourne is the presence of dew in the evening. As a result, chasing is often a preferable option since the ball comes onto the bat more easily under lights. Keeping these conditions in mind, captains winning the toss generally opt to field first as it allows their bowlers to exploit the changing conditions.
Thus, the ground at Brabourne Stadium s aggressive stroke play along with rewarding bowlers who adapt to the evolving pitch conditions. At first, it starts as a batting paradise and then spin bowlers gain an edge as the game progresses because of which strategic bowling becomes of prime importance in the second innings.
