The Dubai International Cricket Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium that came into existence in 2009. Previously known as Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium, the stadium has been an epicenter of numerous events and other sporting activities in the past. This cricket stadium was built with the help of Canadian architect Awsam Matloob. Furthermore, the stadium boasts a seating capacity of 25,000 which can be expandable to 30,000.
Dubai International Cricket Stadium is equipped with a massive network of 350 floodlights also dubbed “Ring of Fire”. The special system of floodlights sets the stadium alight when night falls and thereby minimizes any possibility of moving shadows. The ground is surrounded by giant stands from all sides that are in turn dominated by a vast shed on top which comforts the spectators from the unforgiving UAE heat during day matches.
The Stadium has witnessed some historical cricketing moments in its 15-year-long journey. The venue has also served as a host to the 2014 IPL edition and the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament. As we move forward, the Dubai International Cricket Stadium is gearing up to host the matches of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup starting on October 4.

Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai Pitch Report
The pitch at Dubai International Cricket Stadium is renowned for its batting-friendly nature. The deck stays firm during the start of the match and the batters can expect the ball to come onto the bat nicely. The pitch has no visible grass covering but the fast bowlers can very much find themselves in contention by extracting sharp movement and bounce with the new ball. Spinners will face problems while operating on this pitch as it does not offer much to the slower bowlers in the shortest format of the game.
The side batting last has traditionally tasted more success as opposed to teams batting first. Besides, batting gets a lot easier in the evening when the temperatures boil down. Furthermore, when decomes into effect late in the day, bowlers often find themselves in a diffficult position to contain the batting side with a slippery ball.
Hence, the toss will likely play a decisive role and the captain winning the toss should insert the opposition to bat first. The straight boundary dimension is approx 72 meters while the square boundary dimensions range between 64-67 meters. When it comes to ODI cricket teams bowling first have won more than 50% of the matches played at this venue. As the pitch favours the bowlers earlier in the game and as it progresses batters are more likely to dominate in the later half.
