Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was inaugurated in 1992 when it replaced the Pindi Club Ground as the city’s primary cricket venue. Located near Pakistan’s capital Islamabad, the stadium has previously served as home ground for domestic teams such as Islamabad United and Northern Cricket Team. The stadium was the home ground and international debut ground of the world's fastest bowler Shoiab Akthar, popularly known as the Rawalpindi Express.
Notably, the stadium hosted its inaugural One Day International (ODI) on January 19, 1992 which was a match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The first Test match followed in 1993, as Pakistan clashed against Zimbabwe.
Offering a seating capacity of approximately 18,000 spectators, the stadium has two ends, namely, the Pavilion End and the Shell End. As the years ed, the venue witnessed major moments such as the return of Test cricket to Pakistan during the 2019 series against Sri Lanka.

Rawalpindi Stadium, Rawalpindi Pitch Report
The pitch at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium tends to batsmen across all formats. The pitch offers even pace and bounce which helps batters to settle in and score freely. During T20 matches, this usually results in high-scoring encounters as players exploit the flat track and slightly shorter boundaries to produce run-feasts.
On the other hand, bowlers will need to step up their game to find breakthroughs as the surface largely favors the batters. In the initial phases of the game, fast bowlers will get a small window of opportunity as the fresh surface will provide them with some seam movement and bounce. This can often be seen under lights in limited-overs matches which helps pacers in troubling the batters initially. However, as the game moves ahead, conditions ease out and the pitch loses its bite to become increasingly favorable for batsmen. Notable partnerships usually flourish on this track once the initial movement dies down.
In longer formats, the pitch gradually dries up which brings spinners into play. Furthermore, in ODIs and T20s, spinners are expected to find occasional grip and assistance with the pitch slowing down. However, disciplined bowling and tactical variations are needed for success. At this venue, teams that win the toss often choose to bowl first because it is a good chasing ground specially for day-night games because of the dew factor in the later stages of the game.
