IPL 2025: Tournament Set To Resume from 17th May, Final To Take Place on June 3

IPL 2025: Tournament Set To Resume from 17th May, Final To Take Place on June 3

BCCI and the IPL committee have announced the resumption of the remaining season of IPL 2025. The tournament will begin on 17th May, and the final fixture is all set to take place on 3rd June. IPL 2025 was suspended by the management because of the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan.

The 18th season of the Indian Premier League is left with 13 league stage fixtures, 3 playoffs, and a final match. BCCI has also decided to schedule the remaining matches at the Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ahmedabad venues. The schedule and the venues will be announced in the coming days by the IPL committee.

The complete schedule is not yet disclosed by the authorities, but Qualifier 1 will be played on May 29, the Eliminator on May 30, Qualifier 2 on June 1, and the final on June 3. In the league stage schedule, there will be 2 double headers on Sundays.

IPL 2025 was suspended after the suspension of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match at Dharamshala on 8th May. The match was abandoned but the management has decided to restart the tournament with the same match and that makes us to witness 13 league stage matches.

As per the original schedule, the Indian Premier League was supposed to end on 25th May at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, the new schedule will now see the final game taking place on 3rd June.

How Will the Rescheduling of IPL 2025 Will Impact International Cricket?

The new schedule of IPL 2025 will collide with the International schedule of the ICC. On 29th May, England will begin to host the West Indies for a 3-match ODI series and T20i series. Hence, the Indian Premier League will clash with the ODI series, which will also end on 3rd June.

West Indies cricket has announced the squad, and Romario Shepherd (RCB), Shamar Joseph (LSG) and Sherfane Rutherford (GT) are part of the series. This will lead to a major clash between their participation in the series and in the remaining schedule of the IPL.

England is yet to announce their squad. However, Jos Buttler (GT), Phil Salt (RCB), Jacob Bethell (RCB), Liam Livingstone (RCB), Will Jacks (MI) and Reece Topley (MI) are part of their respective teams in IPL 2025, and they might also get their scheduled clash with the league.

The World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa is also scheduled to begin on 11th June. As per the new schedule of IPL, the gap will be reduced to 7 days, and the players might not get enough rest. South Africa has yet to announce their squad, but Cricket Australia has announced their final squad. Pat Cummins (SRH), Travis Head (SRH), and Mitchell Starc (DC) are part of IPL, and Cricket Australia has left the decision on the players to return or play the remaining tournament.

IPL 2025 - Biggest Challenges for the Franchises

The biggest challenge for the respective IPL franchises is primarily two. Firstly, one is to recall all the overseas players and have their full squad intact. Due to the war-like situation, a lot of overseas players have left the camp, and they might not feel comfortable returning.

The second challenge will be the change in the playing conditions. Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad won’t play their matches at home anymore, and that might impact their overall performance. Out of the three teams, Punjab Kings is the only team which is not yet eliminated and has a higher probability to reach the playoffs. They are currently at the 3rd spot in the point table with 7 wins and 3 losses at a net run rate of +0.376, and Punjab Kings carry positive odds for the rest of the season on the trusted betting sites in India.
