Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad - Previous Encounter
The previous encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad took place during the final game of IPL 2024 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. It was an unexpected one-sided game that went in favour of Kolkata Knight Riders, and the onus of the win goes to the bowling unit.
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss, and they elected to bat first. However, their decision to bat first worked against the whole team as their first 3 wickets fell for a score of 21 runs. The top order, which broke records throughout the league stage, came out as a weaker point and hence the whole pressure came on the middle order of Hyderabad.
Aiden Markram was the leading scorer with 20 off 23 balls at a strike rate of 86.96. However, the whole batting unit fell like house of cards against Kolkata’s bowling attack.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, Andre Russell was the leading wicket-taker with 3 wickets at an economy of 7.60. Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana also scalped 2 wickets each at an economy of 4.67 and 6, respectively. Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakaravarthy picked up a single wicket each.
When the turn came for Kolkata’s batting unit to perform, Rahmanullah Gurbaz started the game on a solid note and went on to score 39 off 32 balls at a strike rate of 121.88. His innings included 5 boundaries and 2 maximums. Venkatesh Iyer was the top scorer in the game with 52 off 26 balls at a strike rate of 200.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling unit was a complete failure. Only Pat Cummins and Shahbaz Ahmed were able to scalp a single wicket each at an economy of 9 and 8.80, respectively. However, a lot has changed in both squads, and the Thursday fixture will mark a new beginning for both teams.
