We are back at the cricketing hub of India in Mumbai, where the five time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians square off against three time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders in match 12 of TATA IPL 2025 on Monday, 31st March.
Mumbai Indians lost both their matches played in the tournament, in the season opener against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians did a really good job defending a below par total. They unleashed a new talent in the form of Vignesh Puthur who picked up three wickets.
But Puthur was dropped from the lineup as Hardik Pandya returned to the playing XI. Against Gujarat Titans, they conceded 196 runs and were poor in the powerplay and death overs. Trent Boult has failed to provide wickets in the powerplay overs. On a red soil surface that aids fast bowlers Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar will be key to Mumbai’s bowling.
Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers were thrashed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru batters at their own backyard in Kolkata, where they managed to pick up three wickets. But KKR bounced back well with a collective bowling effort at Guwahati against the Rajastahn Royals, where they picked up 9 wickets. KKR spinners will have a tough time bowling on a surface that doesn’t offer much turn and spinners have often struggled at Mumbai.
Last season pacers picked up 56 wickets at Wankhede, while spinners managed to take 20 wickets.
