Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Likely to Opt Out of Sri Lanka Tour

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli are likely to opt out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which starts later this month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly wants the veteran duo to rest and prepare for the home Test series against Bangladesh, starting in September.
According to Indian Express, the BCCI has also asked Jasprit Bumrah to take a break and return fresh for the long Test season. With Rohit set to miss the tour, the selectors will pick Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul as captain for the white-ball series. India will tour Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is starting from July 27. The selection committee will meet next week to select the team.
“Senior players can take some rest and get ready for the full cricket season ahead. Rohit, Virat, and Bumrah have been offered rest and will the team for the Test matches against Bangladesh in September,” a source in the BCCI quoted
India to Host Bangladesh & New Zealand at Home
Team India will begin their home season by hosting Bangladesh for two Tests and three T20Is starting on September 19. The Men in Blue will then host New Zealand for three Tests from October 16 to November 5. They will fly to South Africa to play four T20Is between November 8 and 15 before travelling to Australia for a five-match Test series.

With the T20 World Cup in the bag, Rohit Sharma and Co. aim to add another ICC trophy to the cabinet. Team India is on course to secure a World Test Championship (WTC) final spot for the third successive time. The Men in Blue are currently sitting at the top of the WTC Points Table with 6 wins in 9 matches. Team India reached the finals in 2021 and 2023 but suffered defeats against New Zealand and Australia, respectively.
