Adelaide Strikers beat Sydney Thunder by 6 wickets
Adelaide Strikers will lock horns with Sydney Thunder and hope to get their BBL 13 campaign off on the right foot. Although it’s been an year, a few bowlers from Strikers especially Henry Thornton and Wes Agar will be sure to remind their counterparts from Sydney about their famous 35 ball capitulation.
Our prediction is for Adelaide Strikers to win this contest.

It’s been a year, but fans of both teams will vividly the 30 minutes of mayhem that Strikers bowlers put the Thunder batsmen into. Henry Thornton and Wes Agar came together for a splendid bowling display that saw Thunder fold for a paltry 15 in just 5.5 overs in front of their home faithful.
Thunder had a chance at retribution just a few days later when they travelled to Adelaide, but ended up losing that encounter as well. But this time, they scored 150 and never gave up until the last ball when Strikers batsmen sneaked home for a last ball victory. Having botched that attempt to avenge a shambolic 124 run defeat, the men in green will be looking to make their visit to Adelaide count this time around.
For the Strikers, though, a win against Thunder in front of their home ground will be a great way to get their campaign this season after an underwhelming performance last time.

After a poor finish last season, Adelaide Strikers were hopeful of a turnaround, but star spinner Rashid Khan’s back injury came in as a shock. With the Afghan leggie ruled out for the whole, old warhorse Peter Siddle moving to Melbourne, and international players Travis Head and Alex Carey slated to be on representative duty until January, the Strikers would have to make do. But the options they have at their disposal are more than good enough.
Matthew Short, after his quick rise to national T20 side, is entrusted with captaincy. Big hitting southpaw and one of Strikers’ latest recruits Darcy Short will likely him at the top of the order with BBL veteran Chris Lynn playing one drop.English cricketers Adam Hose and Jamie Overton (player of the tournament in the Hundred) will take their spots in the middle order, which also features the dependable Jake Weatherald.
On the bowling front, Brendan Doggett, Henry Thornton and Wes Agar form the backbone of their pace attack while veteran leg spinner Cameron Boyce pairs up with the offie Ben Manenti to take care of the spin department. They signed left-arm swing bowling Englishman David Payne and all-rounder James Bazley from Brisbane Heat to give this attack an impetus and they’ll feature at some point in the tournament.

After a disappointing opening night loss to form team Brisbane Heat, Sydney Thunder will want to bounce back with a win. It was not a devastating loss and there were a few positives: Tanveer Sangha picking up 3 wickets, captain Chris Green coming good with both bat and ball, new recruit Cameron Bancroft working his way into some form at the top, and Oliver Davies found himself amongst some runs.
Other than that, there was nothing remarkable. But they need to get their act together because they’ll be facing Strikers who made mockery of them last time. Englishman Alex Hales is woefully out of form and needs to find a way to make runs and give his team a thunderous start at the top.
Another player who couldn’t catch a break at the moment is Daniel Sams. We all know what he is capable of achieving when he’s in full flow, but he’s having a tough time with bat and ball. Nathan Andrew bowled alright and kept things tight in the middle, but will hope he chips in with a few wickets to tighten things up. Young Pakistani pacer Zaman Khan did reasonably well in the first game picking up 2 wickets for 31 runs in his allocated overs, and is looking good to make this role his very own for the rest of the matches.
Alex Hales, Cameron Bancroft, Matthew Gilkes (wk), Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Chris Green (c), Nathan McAndrew, Liam Hatcher, Zaman Khan, Tanveer Sangha.

The pitch at the Adelaide Oval is touted to be one of the best batting strips in Australia, with anything more than 160 considered a par score for a T20 clash. Last fixture here was rained out but the weather forecast for this match looks alright at the moment and we should have a complete game with no sign of rain interruption.

Average TurnThe Adelaide Oval will be all set to host its second fixture after rain put a dampener on the BBL opener this season. The square boundaries here are not very long, and the lush outfield helps ball travel quickly, so bowlers can’t afford to err on line and length here or they’ll end up paying a huge price.
Teams tend to bat first and help themselves to a formidable total or preferably an above par score in the first dig, and get out on the field later on to restrict the opposition.
Man for man, there’s nothing to differentiate between the sides. But Strikers bowling hardly fails at home, and Thunder’s batting display in the opening match was far from convincing. Our money is on Strikers for this match.
Our prediction is for Adelaide Strikers to win this contest.
