Ahead of this series beginning, and particularly after Afghanistan won the ODI series 2-0, few pundits were expecting this T20I contest to still have life in it ahead of the third and final match.
But that is where we are coming into this game on Monday evening in Sharjah with Ireland exceeding most expectations and proving to be more than a match for Afghanistan in their regular home venue of the UAE.
Both sides will have ambitions of reaching the last four at this year's T20 World Cup later in 2024 and winning this series will give them a confidence boost in this quest.
After giving out two T20I debut caps in the first match of the series, Rashid Khan announced an unchanged side for the second game of the series on Sunday and with Afghanistan picking up a win, it is highly unlikely they will make changes for this clash.
That said, more runs and longer in the middle will be the order of the day for much of their batting line-up after only Sediqullah Atal, Mohammad Nabi and skipper Khan made double figure scores on Sunday.
On a pitch which has taken plenty of spin, we can expect Nabi, Khan and the exciting young prospect Nangeyalia Kharote to be key in this game.
Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Mohammad Ishaq (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan (c), Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai, Nageyalia Kharote, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq

It was always going to be tough to replicate their impressive win on Friday in the opening game of the series but Ireland's bowlers made a good go of it by restricting Afghanistan to 152/9 in the second T20I. Josh Little, Mark Adair and Barry McCarthy were they key bowlers along with spinner Ben White who has impressed throughout the series.
With the bat, like their opponents, Ireland struggled to get enough players into double figures and in the end needed Gareth Delany's lower-order hitting to get them close to their target.
It will take a real team effort to get over the line on Monday but Ireland are nothing but a team unit!
Paul Stirling (c), Andy Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Ben White

It is set to be another dry, warm and humid evening in Sharjah. Although humidity will increase to 70% in the second innings, it will also have been over 60% in the first innings so there will not be much change across the match.

High TurnThis is a really interesting cricket pitch as bowlers can really get on top of batters when they first get to the crease and their first three or four balls are critical. Obviously in a T20 match, this means that batters can start playing their shots too early and that could be the case once more. A par score is likely to be no higher than 150.
So far in the series, the team batting first has won both games so we predict that the captains will both choose to bat first if they win the toss in Sharjah ahead of Monday's decider.
This series could still go either way and if Sunday's game is anything to go by, there will be plenty of twists and turns during this match. Ireland are a team who very rarely crumble but they look set to be facing Rashid Khan in top form and who is keen to make up for lost time through injury earlier this year. We are predicting a close match but with Afghanistan getting the win.
