The series began in Dambulla on Saturday with a tight contest which the hosts were able to win. But we saw more than enough from the visitors to think that the rest of the series will not be all one-way traffic!
The pitch allowed for a good game with the bowlers continually in the game. Yes, some went at a high run-rate but this is T20I cricket and the batters will always look to dominate.
Interestingly, it was the captains on both sides who top scored. Now, can their team-mates learn from their approaches and deliver more runs in this the second T20I of the series?

Although Sri Lanka got off to a winning start on Saturday, they did not make it easy for themselves by only batting 19 of their allocated 20 overs! Four of their top six made double figure scores but numbers seven downwards akk came and went for single figure scores in the opening T20I. So they need to bat for an additional six balls to help their goal of securing the series at the earliest possible point.
With the ball, although Binura Fernando was their most expensive bowler, we saw some excellent captaincy from Wanindu Hasaranga who still tossed him the ball for the last over when Afghanistan needed just 11. His confidence in the pacer paid dividends though and we can expect Fernando to be feeling better about himself after winning the match with that over!

Like the hosts, Afghanistan lost wickets too regularly to give themselves the best chance of victory in the opening T20I. Ibrahim Zadran's side will have felt that 161 was certainly getable and at 68/1 near the end of the eighth over they looked very much on track. The skipper hit eight fours in his unbeaten 67 and they will need him to bat a bit quicker if he faces 55 balls again in this match.
With the ball, the standout performer was Fazalhaq Farooqi who returned figures of 3/25 although he received good back-up from Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai. Qais Ahmad was the only Afghan bowler to go wicketless.

The forecast is for a cloudy and humid day throughout Monday in Dambulla. No rain is expected but the temperature will be in the high twenties from start to finish.

As we saw on Saturday, this is not the easiest pitch to bat on! The pace in the wicket is hard to predict and we saw the ball gripping nicely for the spinners and the pace-off deliveries from the quicks.
Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bowl first on Saturday but that didn't quite work out for them! It was the first ever T20I at the venue and we expect both captains to choose to bowl first again ahead of this T20I if they win the toss.
Neither side were at their best on Saturday and we expect improvements from both teams on Monday. Both Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will want to bat at a better rate in this game so the bowlers may find it a bit tougher! Overall though, we are backing Sri Lanka to win and go 2-0 up.
