After that commanding win the first T20I, almost every cricket expert thought that Australia Women will make it 2-0 by the second match. That wasn’t to be as the home side could manage a below-par 142-6 after batting first at Manuka Oval. That target was never going to be enough and the visitors sailed through with one over and six wickets remaining.
It was an off day for Australia’s batting unit as none of the top and middle-order batters clicked. Only a late assault by Grace Harris (31* off 18 balls) saw them post a decent total on the board.
Australia won’t press the panic button, though, as they know they have enough depth in their team to make a comeback. We expect Alyssa Healy (291 runs in the last 10 matches at a strike rate of 153) or Ellyse Perry (286 runs from the last 10 matches at 142.28) to have a big game here.
Tahlia McGrath has also looked in good touch.
Among the bowlers, you can back Ashleigh Gardner (10 wickets in the last 10 matches at 8.2) and Georgia Wareham (8 wickets in the last 9 matches at 6.84) to do the job.

A target of 143 was unlikely to bother the South African batting, and they eventually chased it down in 19 overs without much trouble. Captain Laura Wolvaardt's (58*) and Tazmin Brits (41) starred with the bat for South Africa. These two will have to continue the good work in the final T20I, because the others don’t have the experience to do well on these pitches.
The experienced Marizanne Kapp also chipped in with a useful 20. She may not have gotten a huge score in this series, but she looks good enough to provide another impactful cameo in the decider.
South Africa’s bowling was exceptional in the second T20I. They managed to apply regular pressure on the batters and didn’t allow them to score freely.
Pace bowler Masabata Klaas proved to be a formidable force, claiming figures of 2 for 16 from three overs. Meanwhile, the spin pair of Nonkululeko Mlaba and Chloe Tryon exerted control during the crucial middle overs.

This isn’t a pitch where batters can freely hit through the line. Seamers find lateral movement and bounce consistently here. Batters will have to apply themselves to get big runs. The best phase for batting will be in the second inning, when the wicket tends to flatten a bit.
The weather in Hobart on the day of the match will be clear and pleasant.
Bellerive Oval isn’t a high-scoring ground. The average first innings score in women’s T20Is here is just 131. In domestic cricket, that score increases to 138. The team batting first should look to set a score of around 150-160 here.
Bellerive Oval has hosted four women's T20Is, with two won by the team batting first and two by the chasing side. However, this is known to be a venue that favors the chasing side. All of the five women’s ODIs played here, for instance, have been clinched by the team chasing. We feel the team winning the toss is likely to field here.
Australia Women will be licking their wounds after conceding the second game to the visitors. They are a formidable side, more so at home, and don’t crumble easily. The loss will hurt them, and we expect them to make a strong comeback in the decider on Tuesday. South Africa Women will be high on confidence and will be eyeing a historic series win over their rivals. However, we expect Australia to come out better prepared this time and dominate this contest.
We expect Australia Women to bounce back and win the decider.
