India Women were on top of the game during the only Test against the Aussies which came right after their victory over England. However, Australia Women bounced back in the white-ball format completing a clean sweep with a 0-3 win against the hosts.
The only time India Women were close to a win in this series was in the 2nd ODI while chasing 259 runs. India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been out of form for a long time now.
We talked about this in our predictions for the previous home series against England Women as well. She struggled to even get a start during the recent ODI series.
And to make things worse, the fielding hasn’t been up to the standard from India Women. The visitors have the momentum on their side and will pose a tough challenge as the two teams clash at the DY Patil Stadium in the 1st T20I in Mumbai.

Except for the skipper, most of India’s key players delivered with the bat during the recently concluded ODI series. However, they fell short of a winning effort every time.
Nevertheless, there were many positives to take from these matches. Pooja Vastrakar’s quick fifty at number 9 in the first ODI, the 96-run knock from Richa Ghosh at number 3 in the run-chase, and the fifer from Deepti Sharma resulting in the Australian collapse were some of the top highlights.
Jemimah Rodrigues also played a key role in the run-chase as she struck a crucial partnership with Ghosh. Though it was an ODI series and this is a prediction for the T20I, the performances in the ODI give us an insight into the form of the players.
Along with these two batters, Smriti Mandhana will be the one to watch out for in this opening T20I match in Mumbai. If we look at the T20Is, India Women struggled in those games as well during their previous home series against England.
Mandhana, Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma have major roles to play in the top order. If these three are out cheaply, the out-form skipper Harmanpreet Kaur cannot lead the comeback and set India on course for a competitive score.
For India to dominate the Aussies, they need a spin-friendly bowling pitch that could trouble the visitors and India Women would then slowly and steadily chase down the target.
Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil are in good form with the ball and along with Renuka Singh Thakur, will lead the Indian bowling attack.

Australia Women will be confident coming into the T20I series after a clean sweep in the ODIs. They are also coming fresh off Women’s Big Bash and will carry the form and momentum from the T20 campaign for their respective franchises.
The 20-year-old Phoebe Litchfield will be the one to watch out for. She was exceptional in the ODIs with two half-centuries and a hundred in the last game. She’s in sublime form and the skipper will consider letting her open the innings in the T20Is as well.
And then there are the likes of Alyssa Healey and Beth Mooney who’ve got plenty of experience and will likely feature in the top 3. Healey should be looking to start with an aggressive approach to not allow the Indian bowlers to settle.
In the middle-order, Ellysse Perry holds the key to Australia’s success. She’s got the of other all-rounders like Grace Harris and Ashleigh Gardner. The latter also has a key role to play with the ball.
The skipper has shown great trust in Gardner when it comes to delivering breakthroughs. Megan Schutt will lead the pace attack while Alana King will be a game-changer with her leg-break bowling.
It is a well-balanced overall side with many high-impact players who can turn things around at any point in the game.
Phoebe Litchfield, Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Tahlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, Alana King, Kim Garth, Megan Schutt

It is a batting-friendly pitch where bowlers have struggled to find wickets and a lot of runs are on offer for the batters. The weather is clear with a high of 30 degrees Celsius in Mumbai on the match day.
All the T20Is of this series will be played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Though only 2 T20Is have been played here, it has been a high-scoring venue in both matches.
In men’s domestic matches, the average 1st innings score here has been 160 runs with teams bowling first winning 20 of the 37 games played here.
In this game, with the kind of batting strength both teams possess, we reckon even 180 runs may not be safe on this ground and the team batting first should aim at 185+ to be in a strong position.
The last time these two teams met here, India won the super over after they tied the game while chasing a 188-run target. Australia Women had comfortably chased down 173 runs in the previous game here. Considering the nature of this pitch and the past encounters between the two sides here, we reckon bowling first and chasing a target will be the preferred choice.
India Women have what it takes to bounce back. They’ve got a strong bowling attack along with some in-form and promising big-hitters throughout their lineup. However, they lack consistency and with the skipper failing to make significant contributions, the hosts aren’t in a strong position. The visitors, on the other hand, swept the ODI series and will carry the momentum into this game. Australia Women will have the upper hand going into this match and hence, start as favorites in our match prediction.
