Australia Women will be up against the Windies Women at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney for the 2nd T20I of the 3-match series. The hosts will be confident of a taking 2-0 unmissable lead with a win here.

Though Hayley Matthews scored an unbeaten 99 off 74 balls in the last game, others haven’t been as impressive or reliable in the West Indies lineup. That is why in spite of a big inning from the skipper, the visitors finished with just 147 runs on the board.

The brilliant bowling attack of the Aussies has a new match-winner rise up to the occasion every single time and will have the upper hand in this contest. There are quite a few all-rounders in this lineup and that allows for variety in the bowling attack.

The way the Aussies chased down the target showed how far ahead the hosts were in this contest. It will not be easy for West Indies Women to put Aussie Women on the backfoot in their own backyard.

Australia Preview

Megan Schutt finished wicketless in her spell though she delivered one maiden over and conceded just 15 off her 4 Overs. Such a spell from one of the key frontline bowlers puts a lot of pressure on the opposition in a T20I game.

The middle-order batters in the Windies lineup failed to finish the game on a high as they struggled to score runs. Ashleigh Gardner, a right-arm off-break bowler, finished with 1 for 26 in her 4 Overs.

Gardner has become one of the key match-winning bowlers in recent times. While she also plays a crucial role at number 4 as an attacking batter, she’s been a reliable bowler when the skipper is looking for a breakthrough.

And in the pace department, along with the experienced Schutt, Aussies also have right-arm fast Darcie Brown. Though she was a bit expensive in the last match, she remains a key figure in this bowling attack.

The batting lineup is quite deep and most of the key players in this Aussie lineup are in fine touch. Alyssa Healey at the top has led the team from the front while she can trust Gardner and Elysse Perry in the middle-order to come good in case they lose a few early wickets.

Australia Predicted Playing XI:

Alyssa Healy (c & wk), Beth Mooney, Tahlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, Ellyse Perry, Phoebe Litchfield, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham, Jess Jonassen, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown

West Indies Women Preview

Hayley Matthews has been in tremendous form in T20Is lately. She’s consistently scored runs at the top but unfortunately has been the only one in the Windies lineup to do so.

The skipper hasn’t received from others in the batting order. In their last T20I series against Ireland Women at home, West Indies bowled first in all of the 3 matches

Since they were always chasing a below-par total, the batting wasn’t tested as much. However, in the 1st match of that series, the Windies lost 8 wickets on their way to a 113-run target.

Hayley Matthews was consistently the top run-scorer for West Indies Women in that series. And while they’ve tried different options for the opener’s slot alongside Matthews, none has been successful in delivering consistently.

The recent performances of Stafanie Taylor and Shemaine Campbelle in the middle order will be a matter of concern for the visitors. Chinelle Henry is another key batter in this lineup but she hasn’t been any more promising either.

The batting effort is heavily dependent on the skipper at the top. There was some promise with the ball against Ireland but they looked completely clueless against the Aussies.

Australian women have always dominated the Windies in T20Is. Hayley Matthews plays a crucial role in this department as well.

She’s the only consistent wicket-taker for the Windies. They should consider bringing in Cherry Ann Fraser in the lineup to add strength to their bowling.

West Indies Women Predicted Playing XI:

Hayley Matthews (c), Rashada Williams (wk), Stafanie Taylor, Shemaine Campbelle, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, Aaliyah Alleyne, Shabika Gajnabi, Shamilia Connell, Afy Fletcher, Karishma Ramharack

Weather Conditions

It is a batting-friendly pitch where the ball comes onto the bat nicely allowing batters to time their strokes to perfection. Bowlers need to be disciplined with their lines and lengths to be successful here. It will be a clear and sunny day with a high of 21 degrees Celsius.

AUSW vs WIW Pitch Report

North Sydney Oval in Sydney will be the venue for the 2nd T20I between Australia Women and West Indies Women. The average 1st innings score at this venue is 146 runs in T20Is. Given the shorter size of the ground, we reckon it will be easier for batters to clear the boundaries consistently. As such, a match-winning score should be at least 165 runs or more.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams bowling first have won 7 of the 11 T20Is played at this venue in Sydney. Australia Women comfortably chased down a 148-run target in the last match here. West Indies Women will also be in a better position if they bowl first and back their bowlers to give them an upper hand in the match.

West Indies haven’t looked threatening against the Aussies in a long time now. And considering their over-dependence on the skipper in both departments, they don’t look in a great position to challenge the Aussies even now. The hosts have many all-rounders that allow for depth in batting and variety in their bowling attack.

Overall, Australia Women, have an in-form and reliable side which makes them the clear favorites in our match prediction.
