Bangladesh meet Malaysia in their final group stage fixture with a semi-final place on the line. Bangladesh are level on points with Thailand with one win and one loss from 2 games, but they’re sitting below Thailand on the points table due to a lower NRR.
Malaysia women are yet to open their in the competition so far, and are out of contention for qualifying to the semis. With Bangladesh showing dominance in all their three encounters with Malaysia, it’s safe to assume that Bangladesh are the favourites to win this contest.
But, then again, cricket, as they say, is a funny game and any team can beat any other on their day.

Bangladeshi women were comfortable chasing 100 against Thailand in their first match, but they were clearly out of depth facing a much stronger Sri Lankan attack in their second match. With the top three dismissed inside 10 balls, captain Nigar Sultana had to go about her repair job.
But there was hardly any substantial partnership in the middle, and all Bangladesh could muster in their 20 overs was 111. A paltry total like that was never going to be enough to stop a strong Sri Lankan side and they eventually got over the line in the 18th over. The batting unit as such isn’t brittle, but they haven’t quite learned lessons from their 0-5 whitewash when Indian women came visiting back in May. And the lack of application in trying to build partnerships is still concerning.
Bowling-wise, Nahida Akter has been economical so far giving away 26 runs from 8 overs in which she has picked up 3 wickets. Rabeya Khan has had equally good impact on the matches so far impressing with 4 wickets from her 7 overs of legbreak bowling so far.

Malaysia women were pounded by Sri Lanka women at Dambulla the other day. Their bowlers let the hosts put on board 184 from 20 overs, but chasing 185 for a victory looked like a distant dream after their batting order imploded only to fold for 40.
A 144-run defeat to one of the heavyweights in the competition exposed the skill difference between the up-and-coming Malaysian side and an established Sri Lankan side.
They put in a decent performance against Thailand in the opener even though the result didn’t go their way. Winifred Duraisingam, Wan Julia, and Elsa Hunter are going to be a key part of their batting order, if they are to challenge Bangladeshi bowlers at all. Duraisingam has much to offer with her right arm medium pace as well.
With 3 wickets from 2 matches, she’s going to lead the way with the ball as well. Mahirah Izzati Ismail with 4 wickets and Suabika Manivannan with 2 wickets should bowl out of their skins to put the lid on Bangladeshi batters scoring freely.

The pitch at Dambulla has been generally good to bat on, however teams have managed more than 150 on just two occasions. Spinners, both orthodox off spin and leg break, have enjoyed bowling on the low and slow tracks here. The forecast suggests that the match could go on without any weather interruption, and that’s a big positive.

The match will be played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh would be looking to improve their NRR by putting Malaysia into bat if the coin toss went their way. Malaysia wouldn’t bother given how they fared chasing 180+ against Sri Lanka in their previous match.
Malaysia are no match for Bangladesh on paper. If the women in Green play to their strengths, Malaysia women will be staring at another thumping.
