In the 6th match of the Ford Trophy 2024-25, Central Districts will take on Northern Knights at Pukekura Park, this Wednesday. Both teams lost their opening games and are looking for their first win of the season. The Knights will take confidence from the fact that they have beaten Central Districts both times they clashed last season.

Central Districts started their season with a loss against Auckland. Chasing a target of 245, they fell way short and were bundled out for just 205. Tom Bruce top-scored with a fantastic knock of 73 off 65 balls while William Clark (45 off 46 balls,) provided him good company.
The team, however, will be expecting some runs from last season’s leading run-getter, Brad Schmulian. The opener smashed 354 runs in 8 innings at an average of 50.57 and a strike rate of 79.37.
Another batter to watch out for is Curtis Heaphy, who amassed 277 runs last season at an average of almost 40.
Blair Tickner impressed again with a quality spell of 4-66. Last season, too, he was their best bowler, taking 17 wickets at 4.22.
Raymond Toole and Josh Clarkson are our picks for the other two bowlers to watch for.

Northern Knights are coming off a massive 175-run loss to Otago in their first match. Left to chase a formidable target of 317 at Whangarei, they folded up for just 141, with no batter crossing 40 runs in the innings.
It was a poor performance, and the Knights will be hoping to get back on track soon.
They have some solid batters in Tim Seifert, Jeet Raval, and Henry Cooper. Even Robert O’Donnell is a promising talent with over 2500 List-A runs at an average of 36.
Their bowlers will need to be a lot better than the previous game. The bowling lineup depends a lot on Kristian Clarke, their highest wicket-taker last season. Then there are Scott Kuggeleijn and Brett Hampton as well.

The pitch at Pukekura Park is a balanced one with assistance for the seamers almost throughout. Batters too will have a good time here if they can see off the first few balls. The wicket tends to get better as the game goes on.
The weather in New Plymouth will be partly sunny and breezy. There is no forecast of rain so we should get a full game.
Last season, the highest total posted at Pukekura Park was Central Districts’ 280-6 while chasing a target of 279 against Canterbury. Since this is the first match of the season here, the pitch will be fresh with plenty of bounce and carry. The team batting first will be aiming to set a target of around 270-280 runs.
Pukekura Park usually is better for the chasing side, so we reckon both teams will look to chase here.
Central Districts and Northern Knights have faced off five times recently in the Ford Trophy, with Central Districts claiming three wins and Northern Knights taking two. Those last two wins, incidentally, came in the previous season. However, Northern Knights would be reeling after that huge loss against Otago. Central Districts too are coming off a loss, but they seem a little more balanced overall. Moreover, they are well used to the conditions at Pukekura Park and have won both their matches here last season. We hence feel Central Districts will emerge victorious in this game.
Back Central Districts as the winners of this game.
