Sunrisers Hyderabad are all set to face the defending champions in their own backyard. For those who love their trivia, here’s one: since their debut in 2013, Sunrisers Hyderabad have never been able to beat Chennai Super Kings at the M A Chidambaram stadium.
They’ve lost all four matches against this opposition at this venue. The odds are heavily stacked against SRH, but if the men in Orange would want to set it straight this season. Having fully committed to playing an aggressive brand of cricket, SRH has been churning out some huge scores for fun, and if they bat first and manage to put up one against CSK in this game, they’ll certainly fancy picking up their first ever win here.
CSK, having lost to LSG in their home and away encounters, will be wary of SRH as they have been clearly one of the most destructive batting line-ups in this year’s IPL with two scores of 250+ batting first.

Chennai Super Kings go after victory in their own way. Except Dube and Dhoni, most of their players don’t play fast-paced, flamboyant style of cricket but the men in yellow have still been able to put the opposition under pressure in their trademark way.
CSK manages just 8.56 runs per over in the powerplay whereas SRH cranks out 12 runs per over on an average in the same phase. But CSK, as they usually do, have given their players clear roles so they can go out there and execute without any doubts lingering in their minds.
Captain Ruturaj ensures he sets up a base for batsmen like Dube to comes in and take down the bowlers brutally. He looks to keep on batting all the way through, while Dube makes it a point that his limited stay at the crease provides maximum impact. Form of Rahane, Jadeja and Mitchell is a bit shaky, and CSK will hope that they find their feet quickly.
Their bowling attack doesn’t look formidable, with only Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana showing that they could pick up wickets at will. Deepak Chahar failing to provide breakthroughs in the powerplay is a big issue and as is Jadeja’s poor form with the ball, except for the occasion where he picked up 3 in a game.
Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Daryl Mitchell, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (wk), Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Mustafizur Rahman, Matheesha Pathirana. Impact Sub: Shardul Thakur.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma are trying to outdo each other in scoring quick runs during powerplay. Abhishek has a slightly higher strike rate (288 runs at 218.18) but Travis has scored more runs from fewer innings at a better average (325 runs from 7 innings at 46.42).
In doing so, they have ensured Sunrisers get a flying start during the powerplay. 125, 81, 78, 76, 65, 62, 56 are the scores the SRH top order has managed so far in the powerplay phase. After their openers get them off to a frantic start, the batsmen keep on scoring runs at a brisk pace, and it shows in the high run rate they’ve achieved through the middle overs: 9.83 runs per over in the 6 to 15 over phase.
Just like their counterparts from the opposite camp, SRH bowlers haven’t been able to deliver consistently. They had to largely rely on two bowlers namely T Natarajan (12 wickets from 6 games) and Pat Cummins (10 wickets from 8 games) to deliver with the ball. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, SRH’s swing bowler, is going through one of his worst seasons with the ball in hand- 4 wickets from 8 games with a bowling average of 74 and an economy of 10.3. And Mayank Markande, the leggie, averages one wicket a game and is leaking close to 11 runs an over.

The pitch has been batting friendly for most matches, barring the fixture where KKR struggled to get past 150 batting first. The wickets are no longer slow and dry as they used to be, and pacers get some purchase here at the wickets here, which is surprising. The weather forecast for the match is largely warm and dry, but we might see some dew come in during the latter stages of the match.

High TurnThis match will be played at the M A Chidambaram stadium in Chepauk, Chennai. SRH haven’t been able to defeat CSK even once, but they’ll believe that their new firebrand way of cricket will help them open their finally.
In the four games held here at this venue, teams winning the toss have decided to field first thrice, and bat first only once. Chasing is surely in vogue here in Chennai, and it won’t be a surprise if the team winning the toss opts to field first again.
A convincing win against the men in Yellow at Vizag will encourage SRH to bring out their A game and play fearlessly especially during the powerplay. If SRH's attacking strokeplay works out and they get up to around 90 or 100 during the powerplay phase, there’s no stopping Sunrisers Hyderabad. Our money is on the men in Orange.
Our prediction is for Sunrisers Hyderabad to win this contest.
