The defending T20 World Cup champions England are set to start their ICC WT20 2024 campaign against their British rivals - Scotland. The sixth game of the ninth edition of WT20 will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on 4th June 2024 from 8 PM IST. This will be the first time both teams will lock horns in the shortest game format at the international level.
The 2022 World Cup T20 winners are in great form with their skipper Jos Buttler shining on both the domestic & international circuit. England played their last game against Pakistan at Kennington Oval, London. Bowling first, England restricted Pakistan to 157 following brilliant bowling from Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone. In return, English openers Philip Salt & Buttler eventually put up a partnership of 82 in just 6 overs to win the game by 7 wickets in the 16th over.
On the other hand, Scotland played their warm-up game against Afghanistan at Port of Spain. Three wickets from Scottish pacer Chris Sole stopped Afghanistan to a total of 178 after losing 8 wickets. The chase became horrible for Scotland after they lost half of their team for 44 in the seventh over of the game. Mark Watt (34) kept the scorecard running with the tailenders. Scotland lost the game by 55 runs.
Scotland is having a great run in the T20 format with 9 wins in 12 games since the start of last year. But the stats are completely different for England who have just 6 wins in 14 games since the beginning of 2023. Even after the poor record, England players are pumped up with the recent successful stint at the Indian Premier League (IPL). It will be an easy game for England.

It will be a perfect game practice for England before they go against Australia on 8th June at the same venue. Skipper Jos Butler will open the innings with Phill Salt. The duo have scored 900 runs in the past 12 games with each contributing 450 runs. The duo had a great season for their respective franchises in the IPL 2024 season. Salt, whose team KKR, went on to win the IPL, scored 435 runs with a strike rate of 182.01. After scoring 359 runs in the IPL in 11 games, Butler broke the Pakistani bowling unit to score 123 runs in 2 match-winning games.
English management will be poised to see what Will Jacks will bring at number three. Jacks had a tough year for the English team scoring just 198 runs in 11 games. But he proved his worth for RCB in this IPL. The swashbuckler scored a century in one of the games where he scored 52 runs in 10 deliveries and let Virat Kohli score just a run in the chase. Bairstow at number four makes this England squad a death wish for any opponent. Bairstow has 224 runs in the last 6 games at a strike rate of 146. Who doesn’t his 108 runs unbeaten knock against KKR that helped Punjab Kings chase 262 runs with 8 balls to spare?
The English middle-order will be filled with the all-rounders like Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Moeen Ali. Livingstone and Ali had a decent IPL Season, while Brook didn’t play this season. Livingstone and Brook are currently striking at 155 plus but they are not able to produce the impactful innings this year. The chances of Sam Curran taking Moeen Ali’s place are high as the left-arm pacer had a good season with PBKS compared to Ali for CSK.
England will be happy to see Jofra Archer returning from the injury that kept him away from the center stage for more than 2 years. Archer took two wickets for 28 in his comeback game against Pakistan last week. In 5 games Archer had the lowest economy. He will be back at the World Cup with Mark Wood and Chris Jordan. Though we feel that Reece Topley should be added to the squad who has 9 wickets in the last 4 games at an average of 14. Adil Rashid will be the leading spinner in the English Unit.
Key Players: Jos Buttler, Phillip Salt, Jofra Archer
Jos Buttler (c & wk), Philip Salt, Will Jacks, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.

This will be Scotland’s fifth appearance in the T20 World Cup. All eyes will be on the skipper Richie Berrington and the opener George Munsey. Munsey has been Scotland’s leading run-scorer since the last year with 444 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 151.02. Munsey will open the inning with Ollie Hairs, who is striking at 179.22 since the start of the last season.
Brandon McMullen will play at number 3. McMullen has over 200 runs in the last 9 games. Berrington will remain at number 4 throughout this tournament. Berrington has over 308 runs in 11 games. at a strike rate of 161.25- second best to Ollie Hairs. This is where the Scotland team will start losing momentum as they don’t have a big name in the middle order to add the runs if the top order collapses. Hopefully, Matthew Cross and Michael Leask will give the required to the top batters.
Bradley Currie and Mark Watt will lead the bowling unit with Chris Sole. Currie has 19 wickets in 11 matches since last year in T20Is for Scotland at an economy of 4.94. But this will be the real test of the left-handed bowler. On the other hand, Mark Watt is the leading wicket-taker for Scotland in T20Is. He has 77 wickets at an economy of less than 7. He has taken 15 in the same games as that of Currie.
Key Players: George Munsey, Richie Berrington, Brad Currie

The weather will be partly cloudy and showers are predicted during the match. The temperature will range between 27 and 30. The wind will be flowing from the west at 10-25 kmh.
The pitch at Kensington Oval is predominantly made of hard, dry soil, which generally offers good pace and bounce. It is known for being one of the faster tracks in the Caribbean, favoring fast bowlers, especially in the early stages of a match. As the match progresses, the pitch tends to wear down, bringing spinners into play.

The sixth T20I of the ICC WT20 2024 will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on 4th June 2024 from 8 PM IST. The venue has a capacity of 28000 spectators and has hosted 55 Tests, 52 ODIs & 42 T20Is. In 2018, the West Indies recorded the highest total on the ground (224) against England.
In 42 T20Is, the results have favored the team setting the target 28 times. Even the last four games out of five have been won by the team that opted to bat first. The average first innings score at the Barbados is 138. The team winning the toss should bat first.
Though Scotland is having a great run in T20Is, the English batting lineup is the toughest test they will face, With the entire top and middle order in form, there is no chance that Scotland will defeat the current World Champions. The addition of Jofra Archer has boosted England’s bowling attack. Hence England has a better chance to start their campaign on a winning note.
We predict that England will defeat Scotland.
