Following a rough start with two losses, B-Love Kandy turned the tide and notched two consecutive wins. After defeating the reigning champions Jaffna Kings in their previous game, Kandy have improved their net run rate to -0.562, although they still remain in fifth place. Kandy’s next assignment is against Galle Titans, a team that handed them a crushing loss not too long ago, set to take place on August 8 at Pallekele. The Titans have slipped from the top spot to No. 2 after losing their last game against Colombo Strikers.

After winning their first two games, Galle Titans have slipped a little, losing two games on the trot. Their previous clash against Colombo Strikers was a thriller, where they were upstaged by a Babar Azam masterclass. Asked to bat first on a flat pitch at Pallekele, the Titans scored a formidable 189-3 on the board. However, that didn’t prove to be enough, as Colombo clinched the game with one ball to spare.
Tim Seifert (54* off 35 balls) was the top-scorer for Galle in the previous game. The wicket-keeper batter is now the leading run-getter of the team this season with 160 runs in 4 innings at an average of 53.33 and a strike rate of 140.35. He’s a vital cog of this Galle team, and we are backing him to continue his excellent run.
Opener Shevon Daniel (132 runs in 4 innings at an average of 33 and a strike rate of 116.81) has also been in good touch, scoring 49 off 31 balls in the match against Colombo.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa has had a quiet season so far, but Galle needs him to deliver. The left-handed batter has managed only 82 runs this year, but appears to be slowly regaining his touch. It feels like one big knock is just around the corner.
Fast bowler Kasun Rajitha (5 wickets in 4 innings at 9.55) and left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan (5 wickets in 4 innings at 6.40) have been Galle’s most successful bowlers this year. Leg-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi bowled well on a flat surface at Pallekele in the previous game, taking 2 wickets for 27 runs from his 4 overs. His resurgence in form is a welcome development for the Titans, as it adds strength to their bowling department.

B-Love Kandy are coming off a massive 8-wicket win against Jaffna Kings at Pallekele. The decision to have Jaffna bat first paid off, as they were restricted to 117-9. In response, Kandy effortlessly achieved the target in just 13 overs. Captain Wanindu Hasaranga led from the front with a sensational all-round performance. His extraordinary figures of 9-3 from 4 overs proved to be the turning point against Jaffna. Then, Hasaranga, in pursuit of boosting the team's net run rate, elevated himself to the No.3 position and smashed an unbeaten 52 off just 22 deliveries.
Opener Fakhar Zaman (42 off 39 balls) also got some useful runs under his belt. An in-form Fakhar and Dinesh Chandimal at the top can change Kandy’s trajectory this season. Then they also have the experienced Angelo Mathews followed by Asif Ali in the middle order.
On the bowling front, apart from Hasaranga, Mujeeb Ur Rahman has done a terrific ing job, going for an economy of just 5.81 this season. Fast bowler Isuru Udana (6 wickets in 4 matches at 8.50) is another one worth watching out for.

The pitch at Pallekele has been great for batting this year. The ball has been coming on the bat nicely and batters have been able to hit through the line quite comfortably. It stays true throughout the 40 overs and, in fact, gets better to bat on as the game progresses. Spinners will have a say on this pitch and won’t be easy to score off.
The weather in Pallekele will be a little cloudy, with a thunderstorm or two in the afternoon.

The average score batting first at Pallekele in Lanka Premier League is 162. There have been four totals above 180 posted at the venue this season, with the highest being 192-6 by Dambulla Aura versus Colombo Strikers. The team batting first should look to set a target of around 185-195 runs.
Four of the five matches played at Pallekele this season have been won by the team chasing. The venue has clearly favored the chasing side, and the toss-winning captain is almost certain to field first.
Galle have a 4-3 head-to-head record against Kandy. Kandy are surging in confidence after ing two back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, Galle’s charge has been halted a little after suffering two consecutive losses. Though they continue to be a force to be reckoned with, their success hinges on the batting lineup's ability to function as a cohesive unit, rather than depending on just a few standout players. Perhaps they would be better served if captain Dasun Shanaka promotes himself to the middle-order. Kandy, meanwhile, are firing on all cylinders and would be eager to continue their winning streak. That said, we still believe that Galle is the better of the two sides and will come out shining.
